Stack Cutting on the Scroll Saw:
Stack cutting on the scroll saw is an important technique to learn. It gives a couple of advantages. If you have multiple identical parts to cut you can cut two, three, or four at the same time. Obviously, this saves time. Time may not be too important to you if you are just hobby scrolling but there is another advantage.
When you stack cut you get identical parts. Depending on the pattern, this can be very useful.
Preparation for stack cutting is simply to stack two or more boards together and keep them from separating while you cut. There are a few ways to attach the board together and here are the three methods I use most often.
Hammer in a couple of brad nails into the waste area. Be careful not to allow the nail to go all the way through the bottom board.
A couple dabs of hot glue on each of the edges hold the boards nicely together,
Wrapping the boards in painter's tape holds the boards together well. Another advantage of the tape is that the glue helps lubricate the blade as you cut. This reduces heat and lengthens the life of the blade. You can substitute clear box tape if you like. The box tape is generally less expensive.
Once you have the boards attached to each other then you can apply the pattern and start cutting.
