5 Useful MS Word Tips

  1. Need to adjust space between new line or two words very finely? – Select all the blank space where you want to adjust the gap and start reducing the font size to do a fine adjustment.
  2. Save pages when printing a big document by selecting “Narrow” margin option in print dialogue.
  3. When creating a new document in word, always go to “Page Layout” option first and select the Size of the page you are going to use to print the document by clicking on “Size” icon. This will make sure that what you see on the screen will appear same in the printout.
  4. Need to type in other languages than English in Word? Use Google Input Tools for Windows which will allow you to type in any language easily using English keyboard on your computer. Once installed, you can switch to the desired language from taskbar and start typing in that language. I have been using it for typing in Hindi and Urdu language in Word and found it very useful. It’s an offline tool and does not require the internet connection for working. Another good part is it even suggest autocomplete for dictionary words.
  5. Mail merge feature in Word can save hundreds of hours of work if you are going to compile document where some of the inputs may come from database or Excel file. For example, when making certificates or mark sheets you can enter students name or any other information automatically from the list (in excel file or any database file) instead of typing them manually in your document.
