Face Mask Frenzy

Being laid off from work (thank you virus) I have been doing a lot of different things- sorting, purging, sewing/quilting, yardwork/gardening and spending time with family.

Wednesday my Daughter and her foster daughter (our newest granddaughter!) and I will be sewing Masks for special order from friends and family and we are using the photo tutorial below (well something VERY similar).  Download Facemask tutorial That link says 8" by 14  PLEASE use 9" by 14 for better coverage for adult masks!!! It also doesn't use the pipe cleaners-  PLEASE use them!

HOWEVER, just 2 layers of 100% cotton fabric are NOT enough protection! Add 1 layer of sew-in lightweight interfacing and instead of using the now elusive elastic, use 2 ties on the top and 2 on the bottom- each 12-14" in length and put a pipe cleaner in the top to mold around the nose for even better protection!  This mask in the photos was made without (I didn't have any pipe cleaners at the time yesterday) But I sure do now!

here are photos- one of me and then 3 of my daughter showing the mask better (she is cuter anyhow)

Hey Lois! I am finally using the ribbon we ordered and divided!! lol

Here is the tutorial

VERY easy to make and the 9: wide is adult size there are many using 6.5" wide and that is a YOUTH size, but before you go making a ton of them make sure your local medical facilities are asking for them- not all of them are! and remember too that wearing one out in public does NOT guarantee you won't catch anything, it's only a preventative measure. Staying home is your best defense!

Yep, that is Stampin Up retired ribbon as the ties-  I also will be using premade already folded seam tape and a sewn strip of fabric can be used as well.

Frankly, I am glad to be home where I am safe and all is going well.  I have applied for unemployment and I plan to scrapbook and garden in the next few weeks!  I will be working on container gardening for now until Kay gets our new Raised Beds ( waist high) made and I can plant in them.  I am digging up 8 roses and giving them to Katie to make room for those beds but for now, my galvanized tubs will have to do! Quite frankly I prefer to be home all the time anyhow.

I pray for each of you and appreciate you!  As I have more projects to share I will now that I have more time to do it.
