Happy New Year 2018! A new podcast is live today!

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to a new episode of the Crafternoon Treats crochet podcast. In this one I actually talk about everything else but crochet! Well, almost.

Here is the link – enjoy!

In this episode…

This is a bit of a holiday episode and although there is some crochet and some knitting, I’ve mainly been either cooking, spending time with my lovely children or doing a bit of glitter-related crafting this Christmas.

I am feeling very well rested and have that New Year urge to get organised… but we will see!

I talk quite a bit about the crafty projects I’ve done. My most successful was a lovely dried orange garland for over the aga, and a little Hygge display on the table in the kitchen, with a live tree, hyacynths and candles. I really love how cosy this feels and I’ve decided to keep it for a couple of weeks. When the kitchen refit time comes, everything will have to go, so I might as well enjoy it while I can.

I got some lovely Christmas presents this year, including some lovely books. The Secret Garden colouring book will keep me stress-free and amused for hours in 2018.

The Making Winter book is set to become one of my favourite reads of all time. It really is like a hug between two book covers and there are so many great crafting projects to help you through the darkest evenings and weekend afternoons in winter.

I have tried a couple of them already and I’m really pleased with these Air Dried Clay heart decorations that I am planning to make into a garland for my garden room. The air dried clay was bought – I tell you about the disaster of the home-made version in the podcast

My Christmas Eve cast on of the Blueberry Waffle socks for fingering weight yarn has not been without a few setbacks. It all started out very well…

However, when I got to the waffle pattern, my knitting, for once, was faultless…

It was my cutting and pasting when I wrote out the instructions and my plan that failed badly. This isn’t actually the Blueberry waffle sock pattern, its a totally off-piste version – but one that I really like so I’m sticking with it. I’ve edited the Blueberry waffle sock post already and I’ll be posting again this week about the stitch counts for the heel flap, heel turn and gusset.

For my New Year’s Day cast-on I’m really excited about challenging myself with my knitting and I’m going to make the new hat pattern, Lilletine, by Emilie of the Arctic Knitting podcast. Its colourwork but using only two colours and I’ve been wanting to have a go at this since last New Year…

As for crochet, well I am pleased that I finished my laceweight shawl project. It looks lovely now its blocked and its just as soft and lightweight as I hoped it would be.

Happy New Year! xxx Kathryn
