BMW officially presented the M4 CS. The new BMW M4 CS will be located between the M4 with the Competition Package and the hardcore M4 GTS. And since the latter model is no longer for sale, it automatically turns CS into a new flagship model of 4-series. In addition, BMW says that the CS prefix will not be the only one in the model line: all models that are going to be located a step above the “usual” M-modifications will have the same prefix.

One of the most significant improvements in the CS is in its engine bay, where a 3.0-liter engine received an additional 10 hp. and 50 Nm of maximum torque Compared to the M4 Competition. This means that the six-cylinder turbocharged engine now generates 460 hp. and 600 Nm, which allows the M4 CS to accelerate to 100 km /h in just 3.9 seconds (0.1 seconds less compared to the M4 Competition).
The company says BMW M4 CS comes standard with a seven-speed M DCT transmission. This will probably upset the BMW fans. But, according to BMW, this will not be a problem, as the M DCT “changes gears in fractions of a second” and has a long seventh gear, which will help reduce fuel consumption when the car is on highway.
In addition to increasing power, the new BMW M4 CS underwent a series of weight-loss measures, dropping a total of 32 kilograms compared to the same M4 with the Competition package. This was made possible by the extensive use of CFRP, including the roof, which became lighter by 6 kg, compared to its metallic counterpart. The hood is 25% lighter, BMW also revised the design of door panels, the door handles were replaced with hinges, the climate control became single-zone, a simpler audio system was used.
Bavarian engineers improved the suspension of the car: the settings of springs and shock absorbers were revised, and new lightweight 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels were installed. Also, thanks to the new front splitter and rear diffuser, the company was able to even better distribute the airflow under the car.
All these updates allowed the BMW M4 CS to drive around Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 38 seconds, which makes the car only 10 seconds slower than the mighty GTS, but at the same time 14 seconds faster than the standard M4 with DCT.
