After introducing the new A7 and A8 to the market, Audi needs to update its A-model – A6 sedan. It’s unlikely to happen this year; – the prototype has just started to pass it first road tests. The debut of the new Audi A6 is more likely to expect next year.
The company had previously pledged significant differentiation of its models, but only time will tell how it will look like in practice. What we know today is that the next generation of the A8 will appear later this year and this vehicle is expected to demonstrate the company’s new design language. The A7 Sportback and the new A6 have the same high expectations. However all these cars will still have a lot in common – “attachment” to the Prologue Concept.
Interestingly, the A6 has been spied for the first time, and despite the heavy camouflage, it is clear that the car will be significantly different from the current model – a completely different headlights, grille. While the outgoing A6 has the side mirrors sitting next to the A-pillars, the new one will have them lower on the doors. Images of the A6’s derriere are not available at this point, but from what we are able to see in the adjacent pictures, it’s getting a slightly shorter rear end with a smaller overhang. All these changes give the sedan sportier appearance as previewed by the gorgeous Prologue concept.
As for the interior, the A8 is expected to come with the second-generation debut of Audi Virtual Cockpit this year. Despite this, it’s still going to be a proper Audi, with features like quattro all-wheel drive as well as the choice of practical Avant or Allroad body styles. So if a smart digital instrument cluster will be part of the new A6, it is not necessary to be surprised of the standard equipment. Another potential improvement in the cabin is having more space for the rear passengers’ feet.
The debut of the new Audi A8 is expected in Frankfurt Motor Show this year. The new A7 and A6 should join the flagship next year.
