In yesterday’s post you learned how to add some simple straight line quilting to your Table Runner to give it a fresh and modern feel. Today you’ll learn the steps to complete your Banyan Batiks Daisy Chain project so that you may display it with pride!
Trim the table runner. Using a long ruler (6″ x 24″ if you have it) and rotary cutter, trim the edges. It should measure approximately 18″ x 36″.
Prepare the Binding. I chose a lighter color from the Banyan Batiks Daisy Chain for my binding to keep the design simple. From your selected fabric cut 4 strips at 2½” wide.
Sew the strips together at a 45° angle. Trim the excess fabric and press the seams.
Press the length of the binding in half and at one end make a 45° cut and press the edge over as shown in the photo below.
Pin this edge to the table runner at the bottom edge. Sew at a generous ¼” around the entire table runner. At the corners, you’ll have to perform 45° mitered corner to allow for the edges to turn over nicely. The pictures below will outline these steps for you as they’re much easier to understand visually!
When the binding is attached, finish by machine or by hand, whichever you prefer. I use a machine finish binding as shown below. By stitching on the back side of the binding, your stitch line should nestle along the binding on the front of your project. This technique does require some practice but with time you’ll be surprised at how easy it can be.
Regardless of the finishing you choose, when the binding is finished, press on both sides of the table runner.
Your Banyan Batiks Daisy Chain marvelous mushroom table runner is now ready to use. You may display it in the center of your table or along a sideboard. It’s sure to make people smile!
