June has been hot! Not only are we feeling it in the HoH office, but we feel for our four-legged friends who also can't escape the heat. We've come up with a few tips on how to keep your dogs cool this summer...

1. Make sure your dog always has plenty of fresh water, and take water with you on walks and trips out and about. 

2. Go for walkies at cooler points in the day. Early morning walks and late evening walks ensure your pup still gets plenty of exercise without overheating at the hottest part of the day.

3. Mix your dog's favourite treats with water and freeze. Not only does it keep him cool but it also keeps him entertained. 

4. Wet a beach towel, find a shaded spot in the garden to lay the towel down and encourage your pet to have a lie-down. The cool towel will help cool the dog down.

5. A paddling pool isn't just for children, fill the pool with cool water and his favourite toys. You can even play with the Hose Pipe or create a homemade sprinkler with a plastic Bottle, duct tape and a hose pipe. Punch small holes in the plastic bottle, tape the hose inside the top of the bottle and leave the water running. 

6. Always test concrete surfaces before letting your dog walk on them, if the surface is too hot for your bare feet it's too hot for your dog's paws. 

7. Cool their bed down by putting a frozen bottle of water in it. 

8. Most importantly, never leave your dog in the car unattended, even if the window is open. Temperatures in a car can soar in a matter of minutes and the dog doesn't have any way of cooling itself down.

Remember to have fun in the sun, but remember to keep safe and make sure your pet is happy and healthy.
