A Day in the Life of Handprint Jewellery Designer, Lucy

Lucy joined Team HoH in 2016 and is responsible for checking and preparing all handprints and fingerprints that come into the Design Studio. Read on to find out what a day in the life of a Handprint Jewellery Designer looks like...

"As a production designer here at Hand on Heart, my day revolves around making sure that each and every customer receives a piece of Jewellery which is not only exactly what they wanted, but that they will be able to treasure forever.

Every hand, foot or paw print which is returned to us, either by email or by post, lands on my desk in the HOH office where it is checked for suitability, tidied up and sent to the next part of the making process in our studio.

My days are generally split into two sections, essential morning coffee not included, and begin with working my way through the personalised orders. Each order is checked to make sure all delivery and contact details are correct and is booked onto a worksheet for the relevant team in the studio before the customer is emailed with an estimated dispatch date. Then it’s on to the exciting part - the artwork.

I open up each print, tidy up any smudges and carefully pick out any of the beautiful details which make each print completely unique. If I have any questions, not matter how small, about the order or the prints I will always get in touch with the customer to double check exactly how they would like their order to look. Once the print looks perfect it is either made into a stamp which is impressed into our handcrafted range or sent through to our engraving team. This is where the piece of jewellery really begins to take shape.

In the afternoon it’s my job to check any new prints ready for the following day and to let our customers know whether they are suitable or, if necessary, discuss any issues with them and suggest an alternative design.

The reason I look forward to coming to work every single day is not the seemingly never ending supply of coffee and cake (although that certainly helps) but knowing that I have personally been involved in making a keepsake that somebody will really love and cherish. No two days are ever the same, each is shaped by the stories behind every piece of personalised jewellery and is spent among a fantastic and dedicated team here at HOH HQ."
