4 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Faucets for Your Home

Whether shopping finishes for your new home or thinking about remodeling a kitchen or bathroom, Faucets are a big deal. They come in hundreds of shapes and sizes and choosing the perfect faucets for your home can be overwhelming.

Without noticing it, sinks really are at the center of our comings and goings every day. Just think of all the things that happen there! Little ones standing on tip-toe to wash their hands or brush their teeth, teenagers grabbing a glass of water before they head out, families doing dishes together, talking about what went on in their day.

Your faucet fixtures are important and here are 4 tips to help you choose the perfect ones for your home.

4 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Faucets for Your Home

1. What’s Your Style?

Before you start shopping, figure out the style your home already exudes, or the style that you are striving for. If you’re not sure what your style is, Kohler has examples of every type of home style including contemporary, craftsman, farmhouse, and more.

At Kohler.com you’ll find beautiful photos of dream kitchens and bathrooms with plenty of faucet fixture ideas to spark your creativity. My home is a blend of both the farmhouse and modern styles.

For this half bath (above) I wanted a farmhouse feel to feature this sentimental old window frame turned mirror we salvaged from my husband’s grandparent’s home so I picked this farmhouse sink I have been in love for forever with bell faucets from Kohler.

In contrast, in my master  bath, I wanted a clean more modern vibe (below) so I used the Purist Widespread faucets.

2. Consider Functionality

Beautiful fixtures are one thing, but you also have to think about functionality and how they will mesh with your lifestyle. If you’ve got small children, you might want to consider pull-down faucets that are easier for little ones to access.

A kitchen faucet with a pull-down spray spout is something I use all the time, so that type of functionality is important to me.

3. Smart Faucets

Touchless faucets are the wave of the future and are a great option in your smart home. Simply wave your hand or an object (like a dirty pan) near the faucet to turn it on or off. I remember when Shelley told me how much she loved her smart faucet, I thought she was a little crazy to be so excited about something so simple, but now that I have one – I am on team crazy! I absolutely love this wave your hand to turn it on magic faucet. The only downside is I find myself waving my hand under all faucets and expecting magic to happen.

And if water conservation is important to you, Kohler has an entire line of water-saving sink faucets that cut down on water waste.

Another cool option to consider is a bubbler, or drinking spout. This is great when you have kids who are always thirsty! Instead of drinking straight from the sink or always dirtying cups, a bubbler by the bathroom sink is so nice to have.

4. Single or Double Handle

One big choice to make when choosing the best faucets for your home is whether you want single handle or double handle faucets.

A single handle faucet controls the temperature and pressure of the water, which is great for cooking and cleaning. It’s also ultra-convenient.

A two handle faucet is a matter of preference and water temperature and pressure are controlled by manuevering two handles. They add a certain element of  style, especially to a bathroom sink.
