Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2013 - June

It's been such a long time since I got to spend time making a card that required a little more effort than just simple stamping and colouring. One of my best buddy's birthday is coming soon so I thought I'd make a card for her.

This month's tag over at Tim Holtz was just perfect, because I got those distress markers sitting there for long time waiting for me to play with them. There's something about the grungy and vintag-ey style that I love so much. I've never quite been the frilly flowery kind of girl :)

Supplies: Tim Holtz Distress markers, Tim Holtz Stuff to say stamp, TH Classic Favourites #1 stamp, Normal Acrylic Paint, Distress ink pad, Archival ink in Jet Black, Vellum, Water brush, Aluminium foil, stapler, Making memories metal alphabet stamp, Copic markers, Watercolour paper.

Thanks to Tim Holtz's advice, I used watercolour paper this time round with the distress markers and found that it was much easier to blend the markers. The last time I used a normal white cardstock and noticed that it didn't react to the water as well as it did on the watercolour paper. Of course on the watercolour paper also has a nice texture to it. I added a layer of vellum wings, similar to what TH did in his April's tag. But I preferred the semi opaque feel of the vellum, and also I could also coloured it with distress markers. The vellum was a little curly when the ink dried but I thought it gave a nice dimension to the dragonfly.

I didn't have distress paint with me, so I simply improvised with normal acrylic paint. I like the randomness of the opaque paint with translucent distress inks together.

Another thing which I attempted was faux metal tag with the word Happy Birthday "engraved" on it. I stamped the letters on a piece of aluminium foil, then coloured the aluminium surface with Copic markers. Using baby wipes, I gently removed some of the ink, creating a distressed look.

Overall I'm quite happy with the results. There were few things I would have done differently but I didn't have those items with me over at my parents. I hope my friend is going to like the card :)

Thanks for dropping by!
