Autumn Braids

I had a few finishes in October, so I don’t wanna miss my chance to show you a few of them. Today, I’m gonna show you the largest finish — it’s called Autumn Braids.

Please forgive the fact that I have the Quilt upside down in all my photos! (Photography has never been my strong suit.)

The pattern is by Daniella Stout of Cozy Quilt Designs. It uses Jelly Roll Strips, and is super easy to make. What took me so long to finish mine was nothing other than procrastination!

Many years ago, I used to work at a quilt shop, and when the owner wanted to retire and close the shop, all of us employees got to purchase the in-progress shop samples that we wanted, and this is one that I bought.

In my efforts to finish up some of my old UFOs, I had just finished the top last spring when my cousin, Richard, asked me if I would make a quilt for him. Well, of course, I would! I sent him some photos so he could choose the quilt he wanted, and this is the one he decided on.

Well, I still needed to get it quilted, so fitting it into my longarm schedule proved to be a chore. Since it was summer, I didn’t figure he’d need it real bad, but when fall rolled around, I figured I’d better make a good effort to get it to him so he can use it this winter.

I decided to quilt it with a pantograph called Maureen’s Oak Leaves — a fall-type pantograph for a fall-colored quilt. I used a fall-colored variegated thread from Aurifil for the quilting.

The backing is all fall-colored pieces of yardage from my stash.

I just love how the colors in the braids glow! The green sashing was part of what I purchased when I bought the UFO. I contemplated changing it, but then decided to go ahead and use it, and I’m glad I did. Black binding finished it off, and I was able to gift it to Richard last week. He loves it, and I’m so glad he does and will use it.

It’s always nice when one of my quilts goes to a new good home!

Here are the details . . .
