Pink Follows Red

It’s time to choose another color from my stash to sort. I had chosen green for March, but when I pulled out the two bins of green, they were so easy to sort that I got them done in about an hour!

Considering I’d like to be done with this sorting process by June, I decided it’s not a bad thing to double up some months so that this doesn’t take me an entire year to finish! So I’m moving on to Pink. Hopefully, pink will be quick, too, and if I get it done early, I’ll move on to the orange/yellow bin. Or maybe purple. Or both to speed things up!

The reorganized greens are still in two bins, but one of them has lots of empty space, so I’m hopeful that soon I can get that down to only one bin. I sorted out several pieces to give away, and cut out one pillowcase. The best thing about it? I didn’t start another quilt!

As for the reds, I did manage to get it all to fit into one bin, even tho I still think I have a little too much, but for now, it’s OK. The lid fits.

I sorted some out to give away.

I made one pillowcase. I’ve gotten into the habit of making a pillowcase to go with every quilt I give away. It gives the recipient a bag to store the quilt in when not in use, or they can use it on a pillow while they’re using the quilt.

I cut out a red version of Twist Tie, so now I have the blue one going, and a red one started! I used all my darkest reds for this one, and I had a big piece of background that will work. I ended up having to cut the last few pieces of background from another print, but since this is a scrap quilt, I made do. While the blue one will be twin-sized, I’m making the red one queen-sized, since I needed to use up more fabric!

And I started another red quilt that I’ll post real soon, with a tutorial, so that you can have yet one more pattern idea to use your own scraps in. Yes, that’s TWO new quilts started in February — uff!

I also pulled all the reds I’ll need for the veteran’s quilt I’m planning to make. I’m ready to start cutting this one out. I’m using a pattern from the magazine shown — it’s the June 2015 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. The pattern is “Stars & Scraps Forever” by Jo Kramer and Kelli Hanken of Jo’s Country Junction. I may change my mind about the backgrounds before I get started.

I wanted to make a red backing for the Twist Tie quilt, but I don’t have enough big pieces to do it with, so I didn’t attempt that. I will search through the backing bin and the yardage and come up with something for the backing later, since I’m a long way from needing that just yet. I’m sure I can also find something for the binding when the time comes. It’ll be awhile.

It’s gonna be fun to sort through my pinks, and difficult to keep from starting a pink quilt while I’m at it!

My UFO count is not improving any as I go through this process! I’ll let you know how this month goes . . .
