Mad Dash Sew-Along, Week 5

Here it is Wednesday again, and I haven’t taken the time to check in with a Mad Dash update. I didn’t get much more sewing done on my blocks this past week. I had a couple urgent deadlines, some errands to run, and spent one day nursing a migraine. I think our stormy weather got the best of me!

But now that I can hopefully slow things down again, I’ll get back to stitching. So many of you are doing so well on your stockpile of blocks. Some of you have all your large blocks made, and some of you have even completed all the blocks in one Color and are part way through the other! If you’re one of those, I can say you are way ahead of me, so I have some catching up to do.

I’ve been working on every color and every size of mine, just so I can see how they’re going. Here’s a bunch of my small green ones — they’re so tiny and cute!

I know it seems daunting to have to make so many, but if you just chip away at them, they add up. I use mine as leader/ender pieces for other things I have to sew, and they’re coming along nicely. I just need to get back to my machine instead of running around!

My goal for this week is to finish all my 1/3-2/3 blocks and keep chipping away at the others while I’m at it. Then I’ll regroup for the next week, because I hope to find lots of sewing time this weekend.

We still have a few more weeks before I’ll be talking about starting the sections, so just keep at it, and you’ll get there. I’ve rearranged the schedule a tiny bit, after realizing that talking about something we’re not quite ready to do doesn’t make much sense, so I’m not Gonna Discuss using the templates until we start Section One, and at that point, it will be much clearer what I’m talking about. Therefore, next week will be another check-in week, so keep on making blocks, and on the 16th, I’m gonna discuss the filler pieces and give you some of my tips for those before we start using them in the sections.

If you’d like to send me any progress pictures, I’d love to feature them here in one of our check-in posts, so you can email photos to me at [email protected] and I’ll do some feature posts along the way — I know I love seeing all your color options, so I think everyone else will, too! For those who are starting later, and haven’t yet made those color decisions, it might provide them some inspiration.

Happy stitching!
