I found this wool rug at the thrift store a couple years ago. It wasn’t in the best shape and had holes and tears here and there, but I just loved the colors and pattern. This rug was pretty big and I cut it up and used it for several different projects. This DIY Embroidered Basket Planter might just be my favorite though. What you need: Wool rug or throw, embroidery floss/needle, scissors, Since I’ve used this rug for so many projects, I had a few pieces to work with. I traced a circle for the bottom piece of my planter. You’ll want a piece of fabric that’s long enough to fit around the circle. I used colorful embroidery floss to stitch two pieces together to get a long enough piece. I lined up the edge of my fabric to the bottom circle piece and started stitching together. When I finished with the bottom, I stitched the two meeting sides together. I folded the top of the basket down and stitched together for a nice, finished look. Now it was time to add some decorative stitching. My embroidered basket planter was taller than I needed, which is nice because the top can be rolled up or down to fit any size plant.
