SUNROSE FEATURED ARTIST FOR JULY ARTWALK

I got a text 3 days ago from my friend Cathy who owns Sunrose Gallery in Seaside, Oregon explaining that the artist slated for July Art Walk won’t be available until September.  She offered me the Featured Artist position if I wanted to take advantage of it.

Of course I threw caution to the wind and said a resounding YES! July Artwalk isn’t until July 7th, so I have weeks to come up with something new.  Ideas for the theme rattled around in my head until last night when I settled on “Summer By The Sea.”

The “press release” is due tomorrow and I was happy that I found this little mason jar mixed media piece that I made last winter, but didn’t have a frame for it.  This perfectly  says “Seaside in the summer”, and so I have the press release ready.

Mermaids sell!  At Sunrose Gallery anyway!  I want to make a fabulous mermaid on a 40″ x 30″ canvas.  I have had this canvas of a scene at the waterfront in Astoria, Oregon on my wall since 2003.  Bye bye Astoria!

I got out my acrylic paints and had so much fun today covering the old acrylic!

I printed out my mermaid to fill up the 40″ x 30″ canvas. I plan to cover her hair with paper clay and the body will be paper clay or tissue paper.  I also want to adorn her with a shell encrusted crown that will be three dimensional.

Since I want to represent Seaside, I am adding Tillamook Head, our little mountain that Lewis & Clark climbed back in the 1800’s!

I have until July 7th to get her finished!
