Geocache: Roadside cross #3

Sunny day in Pécs, and I mean seriously a sunny one, at the end of the day I had a headache and burn on my head. But I won't remember that in a week from now, all that I will is how many geocaches we found, and that in Baranya county different Geocachers started to place geocaches next to Roadside Crosses, just like this one.

The geocache taken out of its hiding place.
Some of the main roads in Baranya have many of these roadside crosses, just like 58, so we decided to put some smiley on this road today and then getting inspired by the effort by the others we went for a different hunt, we started driving around to see if we can find more of these roadside crosses and if we do and it is easy we'll place a geocache next to it. I had help, my daughter who did some videos and pictures and my nephew who enjoys geocaching but his parents are not taking him to have some fun. My daughter took a few pictures and videos, and laughed at us in case we did anything unneeded.

The geocache hiding under the pole, and covered by some cut grass.
For an experienced geocacher this should not be too hard to find, but for a beginner it must give some headache. For all beginners I recommend to do a few finds with someone more experienced or just browse around in blogs and the internet for hiding technics to get some hints to get addicted.
After a few hides that looks similar it should be no problem spotting one like this, and I also encourage all geocachers who start to think this is boring as I saw this before, I saw that a few kilomters from here; go and make some hides that has something new and look around there could be something interesting in the area, a reason why it was placed there.

The cross at the end of Szalaánta
I had a chance to play geocaching with other geocachers, with non geocachers, and I had to realize that there are geocachers out there who want to find geocaches, want to find them quickly get the statistics up high as fast as possible, and never really see what they miss out. Check the picture above, now look at it closer, what do you see? Let me write down some of the things I see on the above:
  • A sunny day with some nice clouds on the sky.
  • This cross is important for some people as it has flowers on it and also a fence around.
  • The agriculture is important in this area of our small planet, different color green on the fields mean different plants.

Road 58 going down to Harkaány.
This is what most people would see, the road, checking their navigation system how much more to go till the hotel, motel or rented house for the vacation. A few of them checked the map before they picked the location and saw that they can spend at least one day finding geocaches in the area and they might even stop at this cross on the way there of if they did not they might do it on the way home.

The view from the geocache with a ditch.
See the ditch? in Summer it is empty, worst case it is filled with grass. But what could there be when it is rainy, or it is snowing? It could be muddy, or filled with water or snow. If you park at the wrong spot you could win some extra walk aroung it or have to try jumping over just like we had to do. It is obvious that the grass was cut recently and there was no rain in the last week or weeks.

The hiding place and the cross in the background.
This picture I shoot before heading back to the car. It has the cross and the hiding place and a few of the houses in the village. I make my pictures with the GPS coordinates recorded, that helps a lot to remember or revisit the places that were interesting.

Many thanks for all those who started the hides at roadside crosses in the county I was born and raised.
