I have always been amazed by all the lifestyle behind the incredible Fuente family. The Opus line almost became an addiction for some and a myth for others.
Not my everyday cigar, as I normally do not spend over $15 in new world cigars, but I thought I would give it a try again.

Appearance : 6 out of 6 stars
Not much to say when it comes to the appearance. The Arturo Fuente Opus X Robusto is loyal to the brand's reputation of high quality cigars. Perfectly soft and silky wrapper. Super thin and oily!
The Colorado Claro colour is stunning. Beautiful shade of brown.
What a beautiful looking cigar!

Construction : 5 out of 6 stars
The Opus X Robusto burnt extremely evenly throughout the cigar. A solid, well formed, whit ash was proudly standing for long on the cigar.
The draw was great delivering a high density of smoke without requiring lots of effort. I did not have to relight it once. I sometimes fear an easy draw would get me to overheat the cigar toward the end but this wasn't the case for the Opus X Robusto keeping the same medium strength all the way.

Flavor : 3.5 out of 6 stars

1st Part:
The first two puffs were stronger than expected. Full bodied, with an explosion of spices and leathery texture. Right after that the strength settle to medium allowing the cigar to slowly express its beautiful and soft spiciness. A high acidity that allowed the palate to constantly have a feel of the last puff. Therefore a very long finish of cedar wood notes was appreciated.
The draw was very pleasant allowing a thick smoke to easily be formed which had a very soft and delicate aroma. An aroma very vegetal reminding of a freshly cut grass.
Towards the end of the first part the leathery texture was disappearing to be replaced with a soft creaminess. The acidity level became lower as well as the texture didn't last for very long.

2nd Part:
After a complex first part that kept on changing, the second was more linear. The creamy texture was present and a high sweetness was dominating the flavour profile. The notes of cinnamon and cardamom were incredible as well. Easy to reckon and appreciate.
The burn was impeccable and the amount of smoke was very constant. I, however expected some more action from this middle part.

3rd Part:
Until the very end I didn't have to relight a single time the cigar. It took me less than an hour to go through this robusto and I am amazed with such a high quality of construction.
The tobacco never felt bitter and sometimes the last third can express some excess of nicotine and amoniac. The Arturo Fuento Opus X Robusto did not show such a sign. The sweetness and soft texture remained the same. Although the flavours got richer with a nice intensity to it. The spiciness from the beginning came back a bit too late to my opinion.

Overall Rating : 4.1 out of 6 stars (4.1)
The Arturo Fuente Opus X line is produced in very small quantities. They have the reputation to be the finest of the finest in the Dominican Republic Island. When many people still think, this island produce soft and light tobacco, there are few cigars on the market that can show you the opposite. The rich flavours ( sometimes to linear...) of this Robusto showed some serious blending and tobacco quality. For people not looking for high complexity cigars but still rich flavours and aromas, perfectly rolled this is one special one. The price is of course due to the rarity of it.
I believe it is a great "special occasion" cigar that will please most of your guests if you wish to be generous. It will at least satisfy you without any doubt.
