Three chessboards were set by scuba divers at an unusual place as they decided to play a 60-feet Underwater Chess! A group of six divers played 15 minutes underwater Chess games, celebrating the first ever Chess Olympiad being held in India. The divers needed two hours to set the playground using specially designed pieces that could stay underwater. SB Aravind Tharunsri, the organizer of the event, explained this was their way to encourage all the chess players from India and around the world: “The idea was to celebrate Chennai being the host city for the Chess Olympiad 2022. This is our way of encouraging all the chess players from India and around the world. My Thambi mask was designed by art director PP Saravanan, keeping the specifications of my face and diving regulator in mind. The mask made of fibre, measures one-and-a-half feet in height and comfortably fits the regulator too”. See the video and photos below
