SAS tips
I want to share with you some of the precious tips for SAS Business Analysts. This tips were constantly grooming in my mind and I stucked to it and though to have a bit discussion on the same. Anyways let’s come to the main topic. I am listing below few of the points for you so that you can go through it minutely and can understand thoroughly. My first point is that..............

      1.What is SAS engine or do you actually know about SAS engine?
My answer is that SAS engine is one of the constituent of SAS software that can easily read from a file as well write from a file. Each engine allows SAS to access files that are in a specific format. There are many types of engines that SAS provides us with but still SAS will involuntarily assign one based on the contents of the library.

Let’s take an example: SAS V9 engine is used to read data set from a folder and this is Base SAS I/O engine.
Now just try to understand the point that I want to explain. When I assign a library name with the following command:
libname sas_qs “C:/Krishna/sas_quickstart/data/sas_datasets”;

In this case SAS will return the name of the engine used in log file. It’s as followed

NOTE: Libref SAS_QS was successfully assigned as follows:
 Engine:        V9
 Physical Name: C:/Krishna/sas_quickstart/data/sas_datasets

      2.SAS engine specify:
You can specify the name of the engine that has been used in SAS command

      3.Recognizing the existing SAS engines
See there is one feature of SAS that is used to see a list of all the existing SAS engines. Just run the following code and all the list of the engines will be available.

Proc nickname; run;

I’ll display a simple snapshot displaying the list of all the search engines. Below is the same

List of SAS engines
      4. Listing variables of datasets
An analyst most probably faces a situation while applying statistical techniques like Linear regression etc. The reason is that just because of the large number of variables that are integrated in equation. So ultimately we define SAS trick to list the variables horizontally and then modifying equation either by adding or deleting variables will ultimately reduce the efforts as well as the time.

Below is the listing I have displayed:
Proc contents data=Work.Credit short;
Run;

In output, all the variables in dataset will be separated by space. I hope so these tips will be helpful for all the Sas Business analysts. Any comments if any suggestion from your side.
