Find Out How The Amazing Chia Seeds Are Able To Cure Digestive Problems Like Acid Reflux, IBS and GI

There is an entire variety of digestive problems that can really mess with your health, personal life and happiness.

There’s the irritable bowel syndrome with its constant gas, bloating, pain and diarrhea. There’s acid reflux with its constant heartburn and diet limitations. There’s gastrointestinal inflammation with its constant nausea, cramping and diarrhea. And these digestive problems are just a few of the many.

Obviously, to ensure overall health, it may be smart to start from your digestive system. How exactly do you do that?

As always I love to focus on natural remedies. This time it would be a rather surprising one. It should be something that contains the minerals that sooth the gastrointestinal tract and improve digestion (potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and iron), antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. What would this be? Perhaps there are quite a few choices, but my personal favorite is the amazing Chia seed.

What Are Chia Seeds?

I am surprised you are not familiar with one of the newest superfoods. It has really gained popularity and reputation in the last few years, being featured in The Dr. Oz Show, Oprah magazine and generally in many respected health authorities. The reason it’s been on the spotlight? It is an absolute nutritional powerhouse! Containing over 27 different types of minerals and vitamins, an amount of healthy fats compared to that of flaxseeds, a high quality protein, more antioxidants than blueberries (gram for gram), an incredible amount of fiber, great taste and very easy and fast to add to practically every meal.

With all this said, let’s focus on a specific benefit of chia seeds- its ability to improve digestion and prevent digestive problems.

IBS and Chia Seeds

So what exactly is IBS? Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional disorder of the bowel.  Its either constipation predominant, diarrhea predominant or abdominal pain predominant. Each name comes from the symptom that accompanies the condition. Besides these symptoms it also includes gas, bloating, fatigue, headache and depression. It is thought to be caused by either stress or gastrointestinal infections.

What can chia do to help ease the symptoms of IBS? A number of nutrients abundant in chia seeds are said to help people with IBS.

One of them is the mineral magnesium. It is great for people with constipation predominant IBS as it ensures regular bowel movement.

Another great mineral that chia is rich in is phosphorus. It relieves bloating and indigestion, and is a great treatment for people with bowel movement disorders like diarrhea and constipation.

Chia seeds also contain a good amount of potassium – an electrolyte responsible for intestinal contractions. These contractions are essential for waste elimination, digestion and nutrient absorption.

All of these nutrients and the high amounts of fiber work together to soothe your gastrointestinal tract, improve digestion and relieve the symptoms of IBS.

Acid Reflux and Chia Seeds

So what exactly is acid reflux? This is a condition in which the contents of your stomach reflux (rise back) into the esophagus. This occurs because the valve that separates the stomach from the esophagus doesn’t work properly and allows food to claim up the esophagus. Its main symptom is the burning chest pain.

How can chia help people suffering from acid reflux? Chia seeds have the amazing ability to absorb water and turn into a gel. When this happens in your stomach, the gel seems to protect its walls from the acids, thus relieving the pain and preventing ulcers. Just make sure you drink enough water so you don’t get dehydrated after the chia seeds have absorbed it.

The antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids in these powerful little seeds also provide anti-inflammatory benefits, thus soothing your acid reflux.

Another nutritional benefit is the high amounts of iron. Iron deficiency is linked to acid reflux because of the bleeding that occurs due to the acids. This bleeding causes lots of iron to be lost and symptoms like fatigue, weakness, irritability and others.

Chia seeds also pack a great amount of calcium. Although calcium doesn't have an antacid effect, it does strengthen the esophagus valve, thus lowering the amount of acids that reflux.

Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Chia Seeds

So what exactly is GI Inflammation? It is a digestive ailment with similar to IBS symptoms- constipation, gas, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, poor nutrition absorption and others. This is caused by an inflammation of the lining of the gastrointestinal tract.

So what can chia do for people diagnosed with GI inflammation? The same nutrients we already mention work great to soothe the GI tract and improve digestion. This will help relieve many of the symptoms and help you get back to your normal lifestyle.

As you see the magnificent chia seeds are capable of curing your digestive problems and improving your life, health and happiness significantly. All of that by just eating a tablespoon of seeds?
