How to get rid of dandruff

Dandruff is a common Scalp condition. In its mild form, it consists of loose white flakes, which fall off on the shoulders and back and becomes noticeable embarrassment. To prevent this I am going to tell you the home remedies for getting rid of it.

Mayo Clinic has defined dandruff as a “common chronic scalp condition marked by flaking of the skin on your scalp”. Although dandruff isn’t contagious and is rarely serious, it can be embarrassing and sometimes difficult to treat.

These are the remedies that can help you to treat this problem easily –

1. Neem Leaves

Neem leaves are used to treat several skin related diseases, due to its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties. It is also used to treat dandruff.

How to use??

  • Take 30-40 neem leaves and boil them in water. Boil them until the color of the water changes (until water extracts the medicinal value of neem leaf).
  • Cool the water and remove the neem leaves. Rinse your hair with neem-water, after shampooing. This remedy eliminates dandruff and opens clogged pores caused due to dandruff.

2. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is rich in anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antibiotic and various nutritional properties.

It not only treats the scalp, prevent the infection of skin but also nourishes your hair.

How to use??

For treating dandruff, all you have to do is : massage coconut oil over the scalp with your fingers gently before sleeping in the night. Next morning rinse your hair with lukewarm water and shampoo it. It will remove the dead cells over your scalp and will nourish the roots of your hair.

You can also use coconut oil with lime juice for massaging your scalp to get rid of dandruff.

Lauric acid, capric acid and vitamin E present in coconut will help restructuring of hair, and will increase hair’s strength by preventing protein loss. And will provide shine to your hair.

3. Use Apple cider vinegar

The anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties present in Apple Cider Vinegar as well as acetic, mallic acids and powerful enzymes present in apple cider vinegar kills fungus and bacteria as well as bottle bacillus and other germs that cause dandruff.

Apple cider vinegar doesn’t contain harsh chemicals and specifically targets the cause of dandruff, it restores the proper acid/alkaline balance of the scalp, and it helps the scalp maintain a healthy pH balance.

For the best results, you­ should avoid using non-organic varieties and should use an undiluted version of apple cider vinegar.

How to use??
  • Apply it directly to the scalp, using a cotton ball.
  • Gently massage it for 3 minutes.
  • Wrap your hair in warm towel to open pores and allow it to soak into scalp.
  • Leave on for about one hour, then rinse with water.
  • Do not shampoo after applying Apple Cider Vinegar.

4. Olive oil

Olive oil moisturizes dry areas on the scalp, that may be flaking off. It can soak into thick, scaly areas on the scalp that causes persistent dandruff issues, hydrating them enough to allow them to loosen and release in a larger piece instead of small flakes. This is at some extent is complete and permanent solution to dandruff.

How to use??

To get rid of dandruff, just apply olive oil directly to your scalp, massage it with your fingers and let it soak the scalp overnight. But make sure you wear shower cap to avoid staining your bed sheet.

And you have to make time for rinsing it off properly next morning, because this overnight therapy will make your hair greasy in the morning. Use a shampoo to rinse it off properly and it will help you to get rid off dandruff permanently.

5. How to get rid of dandruff using Aloe vera gel

Aloe Vera is rich in anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and moisturizing properties, which helps removing the dead skin cells over the scalp, and moisturizes both, the scalp and hair.

You can either use natural aloe-vera leaf, or commercially available aloe gel.

How to use??

Just peel the aloe leaf into half for the aloe gel and apply it directly over your scalp. Keep it on for about 45 minutes.

Then rinse it of with normal cold water, do not use shampoo just after using aloe gel.

Do it for 3-4 times a week for long-term solution from dandruff.

6. Fenugreek (Methi) Pack for treating dandruff

Fenugreek seeds are rich in anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, and provides cooling and soothing effect.

How to use??

Mix 2 spoon of Methi Seeds in 1/2 cup of thick Curd.

Leave this mixture overnight, grind the seeds in the morning and apply it on the scalp. Use remaining curd to cover the hair. Wrap it up and keep it on for about 30 mins. Then rinse it off with water.

This pack not only takes care of dandruff but also adds softness and shine to the hair.
