5 Ontario Beaches You Must Visit This Summer

At our physiotherapy clinics, we’re constantly stressing the importance of water-based exercises as an option for therapy because of the reduced pressure on the joints. Our clinics offer aquatic therapy, which is a great fitness option for those who suffer from osteoarthritis or other disorders  associated with degenerative joints. Now that we’re just weeks away from the official start of summer, we’re dedicating this week to the great outdoors. Throughout the week we will be highlighting different locations around Ontario, which are great for exercise, rest, and even therapy. Today, we present 5 Ontario beaches you must visit this summer.

Wasaga Beach

This list would not be solidified without Wasaga Beach which happens to be the largest freshwater beach in the world. Located approximately two hours north of Toronto, Wasaga Beach is the first provincial park in Canada to be recognized for its shoreline which is managed with the same integrity, standards and care as many renowned international beaches. On a warm summer day, come out to this beautiful beach and run on the sand, go for a swim or partake in some strength-based exercises designed to strengthen the legs!

Sauble Beach

Located just northwest of Toronto is Sauble Beach, one of the largest and cleanest freshwater beaches in the world. This resort community is home to some exciting events including the Sauble Beach Festival, Cascar Professional Car Race and the Canadian National Beach Volleyball Championships. Sandbar deposits make Sauble Beach extremely warm during the summer and fairly shallow which means you could come for a swim, windsurf, or try out some aquatic exercises.

Woodbine Beach

For those who live in the city and rely on public transportation, Woodbine Beach is the place to be this summer. Home to festivals, fireworks, and other community based events like the Walk to Fight Arthritis, Woodbine Beach is the largest of the four beaches in Toronto. The beach also runs alongside the Martin Goodman Trail which is ideal for those who like to run, jog, walk, or rollerblade.

Grand Bend Beach

If you’re looking for a bit of adventure then you will certainly want to visit the Grand Bend Beach this summer, which is located approximately three hours west of Toronto. Grand Bend Beach is ideal for the adventurous, nature-lovers who want to parasail, windsurf, parachute or surf. Grand Bend Beach is also the setting of the hit MTV Show “Grand Benders” due to its spectacular nightlife and younger community. Come check out one of the most popular beaches in Ontario this summer because you’re guaranteed to have a good time.

Crystal Beach

Located in the Niagara Region and directly opposite the city of Buffalo is Crystal Beach, a quaint hideaway that was once home to one of the most popular amusement parks in the province. Today, Crystal Beach is known for its cottage community and crystal clear waters which is where the name derives from. Historic landmarks like the Crystal Beach Motel are still prevalent in the region where you could swim, play water sports or undergo some physical therapy based exercises in the crystal clear water.
