Toronto: Things to Do in the City this Weekend

Toronto Raptors Game 6

Tonight, arguably the biggest game in franchise history tips off as the Toronto Raptors take on the Miami Heat in South Beach. If the Toronto Raptors win this game, the will travel to Cleveland after the game to take on the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday. If the Raptors lose, they will play the Heat in the decisive Game 7 on Sunday. DeMar DeRozan has a sore thumb however he is expected to play. DeMarre Carroll has a wrist contusion but luckily x-rays were negative and he should also play at some point during Game 6. Jonas Valanciunas is still out with a sprained ankle. For the Miami Heat, they will be without starting centre Hassan Whiteside who is still out with a Grade 1 MCL sprain. Luol Deng is listed as questionable with a sore right wrist.

Gardiner Expressway Closed

The Gardiner Expressway is closed this Weekend for maintenance therefore if you’re headed downtown, you may want to make alternate arrangements like taking the Lakeshore.

TTC Service Change

On Sunday, there will be changes to the TTC as track work is expected to delay trains between the stations of Pape and St. George.

Spring Bird Festival

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend with the family then you should strongly consider the Spring Bird Festival which takes place in Leslieville. This free festival being held at Tommy Thompson Park commemorates International Migratory Bird Day and features multiple bird walks as families search to find the rarest species of birds.

Blue Jays take on the Rangers

The Toronto Blue Jays are in Arlington, Texas this weekend as they take on the Texas Rangers. The Blue Jays have a 18-18 record and are 4.5 games back of the division leading teams: Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.

Toronto FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps

Toronto FC hope to continue their winning ways as they take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at BMO Field. Unlike the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto FC are at home this week which makes this a great activity for families looking to enjoy the sun tomorrow evening. Remember, BMO Field was recently upgraded as a roof and other awesome features have been added.

Toronto Comic Arts Festival

Another fantastic free event taking place this weekend is the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. Hosted by the Toronto Public Library, the Comic Arts Festival is a two day  festival being held at multiple sites in Toronto. Hundreds of comic creators will be in attendance as they host art installations, readings, panels, workshops and more.

Toronto Fit Challenge

If you’re looking to get out and get active this weekend then you may want to check out the Toronto Fit Challenge which takes place on the Lakeshore this weekend. This fitness event features a 5km run or a 2km walk for participants, along with many prizes for the winners.

Cross the Line 5-10k Event

If you’re in Scarborough this weekend then you may want to check out the check out the Cross the Line event This run/walk event features participants taking part in different distances including a 5km-10km run and walk. After the event, food will be available for a small fee; it’s a great way to get active with the community this weekend.
