The GTA’s 10 Best Run/Walk Events Spring 2016

There is no better physical activity than going for a stroll on a warm spring evening as the birds are chirping, the sun is setting and you’re feeling good about yourself. For those who like to run/walk as a community, Toronto has countless events this spring where you could participate for a good cause while getting active. Here is a list of the GTA’’s 10 Best Run/Walk events this spring.

MEC Toronto Race Two – April 10th 2016

What makes the MEC Toronto Race Two unique is the fact that the race covers three distances which is extremely accommodating. This race, which starts at Coronation Park (Exhibition Park) runs on a looped course and perfect for beginners or experts. Don’t forget that there are options meaning you could run the 5km, 10km or the 15km race for the advanced runners. The top three finishers in each distance receives a medal and there are cookies, bananas and drinks at the finish line. Entry fees: starts at $15.

Spring Into Action for Diabetes – April 24th 2016

The 11th annual Spring into Action for Diabetes race takes place at Wilket Creek Park in Sunnybrook and spans over three distances: 2km, 5km, and 10km. Over the last nine years, this race has raised almost $75,000 for diabetes research. This event is family friendly which means you could bring the kids out, register on the day of the race and enjoy walking for a good cause. Entry fees: start at $20.

5 Peaks Ontario Race 1 – April 30th 2016

Located at the Terra Cotta Conservation Area in Halton Hills, the 5 Peaks Ontario Race wraps around a trail and covers multiple distances. The race consists of various events including: 1km Children’s Challenge, 3km Timed Kids Race, 7km Sports Course and 14km Enduro Course. This race is unique because it could be completed by anyone from a five-year old beginner to an expert. Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers in every category for both genders. Entry fees: packages start at $20.

Goodlife Toronto Marathon – May 1st 2016

The premier race of the year, the Goodlife Toronto Marathon features a 5km race for beginners, a half-marathon for those who like adventure and a marathon for the experts.  This event features 10,000+ runners including some of the best runners in the world. There are plenty of awards, prizes, and medals so come out and try your best. Entry fees: start at $35.

Backs in Motion Run and Walk – May 1st 2016

The Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College is hosting the 33rd annual Backs in Motion 5km walk and 10km run. Funds raised at this event support chiropractic education and research therefore some HealthMax physiotherapy experts will definitely be in attendance. There are plenty prizes and awards as well so come out and participate with some HealthMax chiropractors! Entry fees: starts at $10

Run for Women Unionville – May 7th 2016

Hosted by Shoppers Drug Mart, the Run for Women is Canada’s only national women’s race series which features a 1km, 5km, and 10km race. All funds raised will be used to benefit women’s health programs. Entry fees: start at $25

2016 Sporting Life 10K – May 8th 2016

One of Toronto’s most popular races, each year the Sporting Life 10k raises thousands of dollars for Camp Oochigeas, a volunteer-run camp for kids with cancer. This worthy cause brings out a big field of over 10,000 runners and walkers who power along Yonge Street each May. Entry fees: start at $50

Colour Me Rad Toronto – May 28th 2016

Arguably the most run race of the year, Colour Me Rad is a 5km race where runners throw little bags of colour at each other. This is a race filled with fun, music, physical activity and of course: colour. Due to its popularity, the field will likely consist of 10,000+ participants who will surely have a good time at Downsview Park, where the race takes place. Entry fees: start at $34

Tim Hortons Run for Camps – May 29th 2016

Taking place in Oakville, the Tim Hortons Run for Camps is a 5km race in which all proceeds go to Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation. Help out a great cause and experience beautiful sights and sounds because this race takes place at the Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Entry fees: start at $35

Toronto’s Brain Tumour Run – June 18th 2016

Each year, the Brain Tumour Foundation of Ontario raises thousands of dollars for brain tumour research as a result of their 2.5km and 5km walk which takes place at Nathan Phillips Square. After the run there is a free bbq and entertainment for all participants, which gives you more incentives to participate in this fundraiser. Entry fees: Free for participants.
