What to expect from Oral Thrush

The Mouth offers the perfect place for bacteria to reside. That is why in the mouth you can find entire colonies of microbes. In general, in 1 mg of Oral biomass you can fin around 100 million microbes. Multiply that number by 20 and you get the total number of bacteria found in the oral cavity. It is important to take good care of your mouth and maintain an impeccable hygiene. If you don’t, you can suffer from many conditions such as Oral Thrush.

What is Oral Thrush?

The Oral Thrush is known as a fungal infection of the oral cavity. This disease is not contagious, and it can be treated easily and with success with antifungal medication. Called also Oral Candidosis, it can be identified as causing the following symptoms:
• White Patches in the mouth. They can be wiped off, leaving behind red areas that could slightly bleed.
• Loss of taste
• Unpleasant taste in the mouth
• Redness in the throat and inside the mouth
• Cracks present in the corner of the mouth
• Burning and painful sensation in the mouth
It is not uncommon for these symptoms to make it difficult for you to eat.

Should I see a doctor?

YES. If you have developed oral thrush symptoms talk to your GP or your dentist. If oral candidosis is left untreated, the symptoms will persist, and you will feel more uncomfortable. In addition, more severe cases can lead to a general infection in the body. The infection can spread, and it can cause more serious damage.
With a simple mouth examination, a diagnose of oral thrush can be determined. In some cases, blood tests are recommended because oral thrush is also associated with diabetes and nutrition deficiencies.
There are a large number of reasons that can result in oral thrush, such as:
• Taking high doses of antibiotics over a long period
• Wearing dentures, especially if they don’t fit properly
• A poor oral hygiene
• Smoking
• Undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy cancer treatment

Take good care of your mouth

You need to be aware that you should take care of your mouth. Do not wait until something is wrong, and deal with it. Try to prevent having to deal with things. Brush your teeth at least twice every day and use approved mouthwash and string floss. In addition, do regular dentist visits ( twice every year) to resolve any newly appeared issues that are not visible to the naked eye. The dentist has the experience and training to see and treat any issues in relations to the mouth, gums and teeth.
