"I can't wait to get out of residency"  - Every Resident in their final year

I spent my final year planning on making the transition from PGY3 to attending as seamless as possible. Having not had a job in seven years(I don't consider residency a job) I can admit I was a bit nervous about going out into the "real world" but not as anxious as I was to leave. I have always hated that as a resident & even medical student I have had my schedule dictated to me with really no say in the matter. Any vacations or celebrations  planned around whether a certain test  was coming up or whether I was on a difficult rotation. But not anymore because in 24 days and some change I will no longer need a consigner on a H&Ps/progress notes nor will I have to present to attending physician to seek his approval for my management of a patient(something I admit doesn't really happen as much as a PGY3). Last & certainly not least I can finally be PAID "on scale" with the level of work I put in. One of the funny things about residency is that in the beginning you're "overpaid" because you don't know anything & this program is giving you all the tools to prepare you to learn, BUT by the time your final year rolls around you are so drastically "underpaid" you should be filing a police report for the robbery taking place. I spent most of my last year just brushing up on my interview skills, trying to settle on what I wanted to do as an attending & where I wanted to do it at. I will definitely say that this site Adventures in Medicine helped me out immensely in easing the process[Highly recommend it] along with a few of my mentors who had already gone through the process as well. As each night shift goes by I inch closer & closer out of these doors for good.
