With studies revealing the increased risk of coronary heart diseases among Indians, India is slowly heading towards becoming the heart disease capital of the world. In comparison to other countries, Indians have a four-fold higher prevalence and death risk resulting from a heart attack. Additionally, another disturbing trend is the premature age of onset and increased incidence among women.

- 10 per cent increase in the number of women admitted to the institute in a span of 5 years
