Another of the largest home health providers is going big on data in a partnership unveiled Wednesday.
Amedisys, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMED) has partnered with Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP), a provider of health care analytics to aid in performance improvement for post-acute care providers, the companies announced. The partnership seeks to establish real-time data and benchmarking solutions in an effort to improve patients’ care quality and their home health experience overall.

“We consider it a privilege to provide essential, patient-centered health care to our patients and their families in the comfort of their own homes,” Lisa Newell, vice president of quality at Amedisys, said in a statement. “While we have a long-standing commitment to provide high-quality care to our patients, we are also continually looking for ways to make the patient care experience even better. We look forward to the real-time insights that SHP will provide to help us do just that.”
An example of how the partnership might benefit Amedisys is that SHP’s predictive real-time data on patient hospitalization risk would allow Amedisys to address potential issues or complications before they escalate. This subsequently could help patients achieve better outcomes and remain at home.

Amedisys is headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with an executive office in Nashville, Tennessee. The company employs 13,000 people and has 395 care centers in 34 states serving 360,000 patients each year.
The announcement comes after Louisville-based Kindred Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE: KND) recently announced a multi-year agreement with Inovalon (NASDAQ: INOV), a technology company that provides cloud-based analytics and data-driven platforms to the health care industry, and its subsidiary Avalere Health.
