BFW Advent Calendar - December 11th - Responsibility for Self

What do you have to help you cope?
to remind you to care for you?
to help you to keep pushing forward?
what keeps you safe and warm?

When the past echoes...
* I plough my bare feet into the carpet and feel the sturdy ground of this day beneath my feet.
* I allow tears to break free from my eyelids
* I play the songs that taught my feet to dance again
* I curl up warm with my babies hearts beating against my skin
* I take a pen and bring my feelings into the world
* I let the shower wash the dust of nightmares from my skin
* I call or email someone I Love and trust - I allow myself this now.
* I ask for help
* I allow myself to use medication appropriately.
* I Remind myself to show love not judgement to the girl I was then.
* I remind myself of how I have grown.
* I acknowledge my learning and healing
* I look up to the post it on the wall that simple says  "You are Safe!"

When madness looms...
* I choose to focus on maintaining balance even when its tiring
* I accept that sometimes my perception of myself is not entirely accurate.
* I accept that my perception of what is 'enough' and/or necessary can become distorted.
* I refer to the signs and signals of days past and recognise where I am.
* I chose to contact those who can offer help and support to safeguard my Mental Health.
* I work to keep mental Health and wellbeing at the forefront and to remind myself of the importance of keeping it that way.
* I remind myself to exercise my right to say no.
* I limit the time I allow myself to work.
* I allow myself to feel - whatever that means - but to remember that facts are not feelings and that I must continue to do what is wise rather than to do what feels right or easier.

When all is said and done I have learned...
* That mirrors are not an accurate reflection of who I am.
* That the body cannot free the mind
* That the mind can free the body.
* That nothing is as good for your health as love and laughter
* That life is valuable and beautiful even in its ugliness
* That it is ok to need somebody else
* That it is ok to not be able to answer the needs of others
* That who I am is enough.
* That people can be trusted
* That the human heart possesses a greater well of strength than we can possibly comprehend.
