Get creative to turn your hotel room into a Wellness space

In this interview we asked to Josh Holland, Celebrity Trainer, a few questions on his take on being fit while travelling.

1. According to your experience, what are the main health/fitness needs of guests (especially celebrities) when they travel?
The main need of guests when traveling is a quality Program that can be performed in any location or setting. Many of the exercises I prescribe for my clients include Bodyweight Exercises or routines that include Resistance Straps and/or a chair. Simplicity and efficiency are key and they help to ensure that my clients complete the program while away. For my celebrity clients, I typically travel with them or train them virtually by way of Skype. In addition, I design workout programs for them to utilize on their own.

2. What is your experience on working out in a hotel room?
I enjoy the challenge of working out in Hotel rooms because of the constant variance and wide variety of spacing, furniture and accessories that can be used in a workout. Beds can be used for unstable surfaces and box jumps. Rolling desk chairs can be used in place of slides for great core work. I also travel with a jump rope, resistance bands and even utilize towels for creative strength work.

3. What is your favorite piece of equipment to be used with your clients?
For my clients, I like utilizing resistance straps because they are portable and very versatile.

4. What are the ingredients for the perfect gym?
The Perfect Gym in my opinion, includes a bit everything from an open floor space (for enhanced movement, martial arts, dancing, bodyweight exercises, etc.) to free weights to machines and bit of cardio equipment. I love to constantly challenge myself, so the perfect gym would be one that allows for the constant evolution of movement within myself.

5. How important is nutrition when travelling?
Nutrition is very important while traveling. It can affect your sleep and recovery, which can eventually affect your movement patterns. So, you have to be very vigilant and cautious when making food choices in order to stay compliant with your regular meal plan. Overall, quality sleep, consumption and movement are the key ingredients to traveling and everyday living and thriving!
