sensitivity. Tooth sensitivity is classified into two types:

Dentinal: the middle layer called Dentin is exposed due to erosion of outer layer called enamel or inner layer called centum. The nerve ending is exposed to middle layer called Dentin. Exposure of dentin leads to dentinal tooth sensitivity.
Pulpal: the pulp or center of tooth is of blood vessels and nerves. If in case the pulp is exposed then it causes pulpal sensitivity.

While dentinal sensitivity may affect surrounding teeth as well, pulpal sensitivity affects that particular tooth which is associated with it.
