Diabetic should ‘Self-Manage’ - As to Breakfast, Lunch and Supper for Serious Diabetic Patients

Successful Disease Struggle and Advices on Food for Serious Diabetics - What to Eat

It’s not an overstatement to say that, most importantly to all diabetics, adjustment of blood sugar level depends on daily-intaken food by 60% and on body activity and other circumstances by the rest 40%.

According as much, diabetic patients need know how to confine, regulate and enjoy food and drink every day. Regardless of any type of diabetes whether light, heavy, type-I, type-II, childhood type, elderly type.... any diabetic patient strongly needs know how to adjust food and drink according to each own condition of body, in order that they can endure their long struggling lives against disease.

Even any dietary therapy unfamiliar to one’s mouth and body feels strange and ill at ease only for the first few months. But in further repetitive tries over a long term, one can result in getting accustomed to the newly changed menus and dietary habits, and the mouth and the body and one’s mind-set in the brains can, too.

Upon this chance, why don’t you refer to this man’s dietary habits to check your yours?

Diabetic Life(1) - An Example of Breakfast for Serious Diabetic Patients

It is very common that long-term insulin administered patients fall into powerlessness getting up in the morning.
There are occasional days when I as well have to face mornings - if not into powerlessness - in the worst conditions on the day, without knowing the precise cause.
General people will think that, if they get up in the morning, their bodies will naturally get restored. On the contrary, there are many cases of phenomenon in which heavily diabetic patients fall into powerlessness, or into flabbiness of the body.

These points are what are different between normal persons and seriously diabetics. There are many cases in which these points are neglected even between husband and wife or between parent and child.

Because even one’s family members fall short of understanding the morning flabbiness that occurs to serious diabetics, the patient fallen into asthenia has hard time even breathing out of breath far from preparing the morning routine on his own plan, and the wife who has to prepare her morning routine beside such husband cannot help having stress pent-up in her own way.

If it’s only a few times of suffering over the life, the wife will try help her husband with the suffering out of worry. But since(?) it’s been experienced too often and too long, both the powerless husband and the observant wife get onto uneasy terms with each other in their own.
In common words, ‘who will take a cute look at the husband that cannot eat the served meal and cannot handle his single body and cannot take a right breath.’

In patients who have to struggle against disease for very long, there are too numerous times that go onto very uneasy terms even between husband and wife and between parent and child amid long-term disease life, as you can see in the saying that ‘long-term disease has no dutiful child.’

‘Inevitable enduring for an almost exhaustingly long time although the patient is not as sick as death’ is the situation in which the patients with progressive chronic diseases and the family members have to suffer. It is totally different in pattern from the ailments where one nurses a hospitalized sick member for one or two months and looks after the discharged person for a short several months of convalescent stage and then needs no more care.

This fact is what not only the patient but also the family members should make up their minds of.

Speaking of supplementary pieces of erroneous common sense, one needs to know that not every diabetic patient is ‘eating too much unconditionally.’ The patient and the family members also need to know that the longer years go by in getting insulin shot, the harder the patient gets to eat breakfast.’

For long-term diabetic patients, the vulnerable mouth in the morning is still an entity that is formidable in the struggle against disease. Putting food or mere water into the vulnerable mouth even hurts, aches and stinks.
The more failure in blood sugar level the seriously diabetic patients meet with, the more serious the mouth vulnerableness together with morning powerlessness becomes. Besides, there are many times of even their teeth uprisen out of place.

In a vulnerable state of everything in the mouth such as tongue, gum, teeth.., ‘eating itself’ is a hard work and stress.

The trait of Korean food are peppery, salty, hot, cold,... in a word ‘stimulation itself.’ Putting the stimulative dishes into the vulnerable mouth, the patient makes many ugly faces from the morning, grows impatient toward closeby family members without reason,...
They rather shouldn’t have eaten the breakfast, but because of ‘low blood sugar symptom’ which diabetics, especially insulin-shot type-I patients meet with in their empty stomach more badly, they cannot even think of skipping meals, either.

The patients with that symptom need first have his body recuperated with what he can eat in that vulnerable mouth. And if recovered gradually up to inside the mouth, right then he should take from other dishes the calorie that is necessary for the body.
The calorie taken by diabetics is more or less according to person to person, because it is proportional to how much sum of activity one spends, what internal medicine one takes, how much insulin administration one has, and how one’s mind and body changes according to stress.

Speaking of another tip of information for reference, a long-suffering diabetic patient could tell to which degree his blood sugar level ‘is being adjusted’ just through the vulnerableness of the mouth after getting up in the morning.

Just as you can tell if the previous day’s blood sugar adjustment was a failure just looking at the odor and bubbles’ condition of the urine while you pass water gotten up in the morning, so one can check up his own ‘blood sugar adjustment’ just through his vulnerability of the mouth.

The longer ‘high blood sugar symptom’ stays due to unsuccessful blood sugar control, the redder than usual the gum is, the bit more uprisen the teeth are, and the more fragile the whole mouth is. So, eating food, he get his mouth hurt, smart and sting for a first some while, and often experiences blood coming out while brushing his teeth.
Through urine, one can tell what the meal eaten a few hours ago was and how the living pattern of a day ago was. Whereas, through the ‘symptom of one’s mouth getting vulnerable,’ it is significant to tell how unsuccessful control of blood sugar level there has been for the more days than two.

The extraordinarily frequent teeth-uprising diabetic is largely because he disregarded his fragile phenomenon in the gum, ate stimulative food that is hot, cold, peppery, salty,... from the morning, and neglected the cleanness of the mouth in the state of wrong blood sugar control.

The longer he suffers in diabetes, the more slowly each function of such body parts as joints, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, eyes, mouth,.. recovers only as a certain time goes by without functioning properly as soon as in the morning.
It will be easier to understand what I mean if you think up the ‘worming-up’ for your car in winter. Only the difference is, cars need about 1~2 minutes of worming-up, but seriously diabetic patients need about a long 1~2 hours of ‘worming-up.’ But the same is, both first need to run a trial before moving steadily onto the stage without a hitch.
Vulnerableness of the mouth belongs to this symptom, too.

If only an ever so long seriously diabetic patient keeps successful blood sugar control, the mouth recovers better enough to eat stimulative food from 1~2 hours after rising in the morning.

My case is, just 10 years or 5 years ago I drank and chewed about a cup of coffee, bread, a glass of milk and a piece of fruit and sauntered along the street in the morning before starting of the day’s routine.
But since 2~3 years ago, for breakfast I have been only eating the coffee and juice made ‘hottish, sweetish and lukewarm’ by pouring coffee beans into icecream. In merely last 2~3 years, my body is changing badly enough that I can hardly feel like chewing a piece of bread and a piece of fruit in the morning.
Fortunately yet, in fall 2003 getting inch by inch out of severe stress, I am getting bit by bit better enough to feel like eating a piece of bread at times.

Speaking of the breakfast to have been practicing since 2~3 years ago, I drink sweetish lukewarm coffee made of icecream-coffee and finish up with a glass of juice I made after throwing in various fruits and vegetables (introduced how to make the juice in 7) ‘Have fruit and Vegetable-oriented Supper’ of 8. Body Training for Sex). After 2~3 hours, I eat a certain addition of bread, rice cake, potato, sweet potato, etc heated in the microwave oven, or I eat early lunch from the outset instead.

On summer morning, I prepare(?) breakfast and look after turtles and flowerpots on the veranda. Rising in the morning, I decide on which street I should choose according to my body condition on the morning bed to walk to the church for 30~50 minutes. In the church, I do my body motions to loosen up my stiffened joints and muscles in the airconditioned space for about 30 minutes,... In winter, I increase walking time instead of looking after turtles and flowerpots.
Despite the fact that I am more active than healthy commoners morning time, I settle my breakfast with only coffee and juice that are sweetish and lukewarm. From only the ‘icecream-coffee’ and juice eaten in the morning, I get the calorie that will last me up for 2~3 hours in the morning.

I haven’t ever counted exactly how much calorie what I ate was. But given a day, a month and a year, the biggest trait of what I eat is that ‘I am balancing control to some degree.’
I owe this exceptional more frequent happenings of ‘lower blood sugar’ symptom as compared with other diabetic patients to the gift(?) from my regulation and constraint on food.

These theories of mine are only to myself. The happenings of ‘low blood sugar’ symptom ‘might be good to’ the joints or vessels that have much to do with blood sugar level, especially ‘such parts as eyes, kidneys, etc. where capillary vessels center around’ because of the lowered blood sugar level at each corner of the body in a long term though the body suffers in short hours.

But this dangerous(?) idea is my own theory that I have acquired through the numberless experiences of ‘low blood sugar symptom’ for the past 26 years. (Certain days I suffer as far as 2~3 times a day because of low blood sugar.)

Rather more articles on this book, I have allotted for those seriously diabetics who have insulin administered for over 10 years, than for early diabetics who have been insulin-administered for under 5~10 years. Under this consideration, I have written my very idea that low blood sugar level might be helpful to joints, vessels, eyes, kidneys,.. in longer period.

When low blood glucose level happens, the heart or spine becomes too hurting to move. But by virtue of the blood glucose level lowered up to the capillary vessels prevalent among each corner of the body because of low blood glucose, the parts that have much to do with capillary vessels suffer less harm, it is thought.

Regulating food in this sense is what I believe in my body. (Part of it overlaps with ‘3. How to Protect Eyes’)

The amount of Icecream + coffee + Juice + ?(other food) that I usually have in the morning is 1000cc. I take as similar amount or calorie as boiled rice + Korean soup + side dishes + water that are intaken by others as a meal.
The reason I have as much as 1000cc in the morning whether it’s coffee, milk, juice,... is because calorie is important and quantity is as well important.

These points are what are different between my eating habits and the dietetic treatments others are doing.

If the amount is less, then hunger annoys me. Annoyed in the hunger I get to have unexpected snack. And from the food between meals, I get more calorie than I need.

In order that you succeed in alimentotherapy or diet, you should lower the calorie but shouldn’t diminish the amount, I’d like to emphasize.
You have to have as much as your stomach feels full, only then you can be free from eating things.

As one of the best foods that can keep one sustaining his or her own life in their never gaining weight even if they eat as much as their stomach feel satiated, there is sure juice that one eat on his or her own making.
