7 Glorious Soups for National Vegetarian Week

Tags: soup

Soup is a great dish to enjoy all year round, as a lunch or dinner, don't you think?

It's a great way of getting your five-a-day and it's fabulous if you're trying to watch your weight. It's also an easy and filling meal if you have a wee one to feed. Forget chicken nuggets and all the other rubbish that's targeted a kids.

I make a lot of homemade soup, but during the week I'm always short on time and often home late. I try to avoid ready meals as they contain so much sugar and fat, not to mention preservatives and I don't find them that appetising, so I often turn to soup.

It's ok if I've already made some, but when I've not you'll often find me wandering the supermarket aisles thinking I have half an hour before I have to start Cooper's bedtime routine, what the heck am I going to make?

That's where GLORIOUS soups come in. Fresh soups in a variety of flavours, both hearty and skinny versions with eight delicious veggie and vegan soups to choose from.

I've tried other fresh soups but they're often thin and the one thing I hate about them is they don't spice their soups. They put plenty of sugar in but they forget to add spices and a soup is just bland without herbs and spices.

That's what I like about GLORIOUS soups, not only do they have a great range of veggie and vegan soups, but they spice them. They're full of flavour and they aren't afraid to give them a serious kick when they need it.  Serve them with some crusty bread and you have a healthy, filling meal made in minutes with no fuss.

Our family favourites are:

New England Butternut Squash Soup - This is Cooper's favourite GLORIOUS soup. It's rich and creamy with the wonderful sweet flavour of butternut squash and warmth from cumin, which is my own favourite spice to pair with this bright orange squash. This one is from their skinny range, although you wouldn't guess it and it's gluten-free and vegetarian.

Fragrant Thai Carrot Soup - Which Graham particularly likes. It's vegan, gluten-free and low calorie. The sweetness of carrots are flavoured with lemongrass, ginger, lime and coriander.

Mumbai Lentil & Chickpea Soup - This is my favourite. It has a lot of texture and it's really filling. It's got a bit of a kick too. This is no bland soup! Toor daal, spinach, tomatoes, turmeric and ginger. I recommend you try this one. Oh and this one is also vegan and gluten-free.

There are seven GLORIOUS veggie and vegan soups so one for each day of National Vegetarian Week.  The other four are Goan Tomato & Lentil, Texan Four Bean Chilli, Singapore Crushed Tomato and Vietnamese Supergreen. You will notice they all have their own destinations and flavours from that region.

These are hearty soups in a good size tub, so you get two generous bowlfuls from the one pot, which is great value for money.

So on a busy week night, when you're looking for a quick veggie meal that is fresh, low in calories and packed with flavour, you know what to reach for.

Just in case you are wondering I'm showing off our favourite soups in my Spode bowls. They are Blue Italian Spode, which is having it's 200th anniversary this year. They were kind enough to send me some in celebration.

I hope you follow me through National Vegetarian Week. I'll be sharing vegetarian inspiration with you all week here, on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest too. Do say stop by to say hi and have a wonderfully tasty veggie week.
