More than 80 organizations competed for top honors in the 2017 SHN Architecture & Design Awards, and we’re

Senior living communities nationwide submitted their communities for consideration in the fifth annual SHN Awards, a contest that recognizes excellence by celebrating projects that improve the lives of seniors through innovative design.

“We’re thrilled to have so many entries this year and the winners are incredible examples of the future of senior housing,” said SHN Publisher and Founder George Yedinak. “Additionally, the judges were thrilled to have so many interesting student submissions from around the world. It’s exciting for everyone to see the enthusiasm and passion for architecture and design in senior living.”

From the more than 80 organizations that entered their communities in this year’s competition, only nine projects were selected as 2017 SHN Architecture & Design Awards Winners for their unique approaches to senior living design. The competition evaluates communities through a scoring system that looks at various categories including design elements specific to each project type, community integration, amenities and lifestyle features.

The 2017 competition was sponsored exclusively by Kwalu, a provider of senior living furniture solutions to communities across the United States.

“Architecture and design for senior living communities continue to evolve and grow to meet the needs of seniors both today and for tomorrow,” said Kwalu CEO Michael Zusman. “It’s exciting to see current trends and styles in communities that show innovation in design and community integration. Kwalu is proud to help support more interest in the business of senior housing.
