Tour de Yorkshire sportive

I am so glad I wrote my last blog seams it has helped May and that is why I wrote it.... I do not want to let this define me and be know as the woman with depression. I have decided that if I continue looking in  my rear view mirror then I'm going to find it hard to move forward. So at thimes I have have to check and will let you know how I'm doing but my blogs will continue to be on my fitness events undertaken as normal mum shapely mum.....
Yorkshire Bank was hosting a compition for people to win a place on the Tour De Yorkshire  sportive . One of my friends encouraged me to give it a go, in the end three of us entered this compertion hoping we could all get a place altho unlikely. Guess What!!! We all got place can you believe it.
We won the place on the 17th of May and the Sportive was on 30t of April same day as stage 3 or the Tour De Yorkshire and it was the same routine they was going to take at the end of there cycle. If you follow the rides we was doing Fox Vally in Sheffield. How hard could it be I know it's a little hillly but we will be fine.
Pleased to inform you all about a new love in my life... My new bike. I had even more confidence about the sportive because of this. We did need to train tho. Yorkshire Bank made sure we was given good tips and goal's to set. Dean Downing English retired bicycle racer, did us a weekly blog they was very informative. We had food tips, clothes tips and grate training tips. It was a must that we did the distance a few time before the event and also to make sure we did a few hills. I found a really good route and did this a few times it was hard but I achieved it and did not get up at all.l
Started to do the count down and was feeling good excited. Then I watch this news item
http://twitter.com/itvcalendar/status/857645022367203328 thanks Dean!!! This really got me spoked maybe it was not going to be as easie as I thought. Started to look at the hills on YouTube not a good idear. I was looking at how to get up killer hills slow steady.
The night before , I stayed at my firends over night as we was going together.  She was really fracking out and getting me a little more worried. Morning of I feeling excited but a little sick we are actively involved in the Tour De Yorksire how amazing.
Ok so we parked the car and started our walk to the meeting place we had to walk down Pea Ryoyd lane.... If you know this its a steep road. Then i seen people cycling up it and may more walking up it surely we did not have to do this hill as it was scary walking down it. I know i have said this may time but this hill reall does go on and on and please to get a good sence of what i mean youtube Pea Royd Lane sheffield. When we arrive to the meeting place the attomaspher was amazing TV crew Crowed finishing line Tv's with the profesnals on so was able to watch them that was amazing. In an hour or so we was going to be doing the route they was going to do to finish the hole Tour de Yorkshire. We meet Dean Donwling for the first time and he said he was going to cycle the same one as me and my firend that was good to know he was really chatty and friendly he also helped by taking a look at our bike to see we had our possioning correct.
I have to say with the atmospher my gels, having my firends here and now the support of Dean i was feeling very excited. Time to get to the start line and standing there gave me the feeling you get when your on a rollercoaster and the safty bars come down its to late to say hay let me off and your thinking to yourself why did i think this was a good idea. I just decided to keep it slow and steady also watch of videos of how to cycle up hill's i can do this. So yes fist bit of hill got up then i turned right there laughing at you is Pea Royd Lane. As i start up this hill i could hear its saying "ill brake you Siobhan you will never make it feel the burn you cant keep this up much more". I have to say it was right i had to get off and walk but to be honist about 90% we off this did make you feel a little better but you also can't help feel a bit like a failer.  i had to get back on as soon as i could and i managed to finish the hill on my bike may did not feeling a bit better. Still not as confiden on my road bike as i would like so i had to go down the hill slower them most im sure this will chnge as my confidence grows. Next few hills was hard but they was like hills that i have trained on so i managed these. I was going up one of the hills and i was finding it so hard and few laides riding next to me were grate they counted down from 10 ssaying the hill will be over that was a huge help i made it yaaaa. I was feeling pritty good i had lost my friends and Dean not seen them for a while this worried me wonderd if i was still on the right route. Then i stoped to have a drink and food and gel's this has been been so hard i need this little rest. Then from no where my friend and Dean arrived i was glad to see them happy we was half way. Dean was grate and was keeping an eye on all of use so he would cycle back to who ever was at the back and then cycle back to the one at the frount he did this all the way. There was another big hill and it was so hard to get up i was out of water and felt like i had just used all my enagy i thought no way i could go on Dean was cycling with me at this point he help me up the hill and took my bottle cycled to the pub while i carried on he filled my bottle for me with Water (unfortunately) but hay what a star this really helped. Don't under estimate the power of water or the amount you will need. If i had more water i wonder if i could of keep up the pace i had earlier. there was more big hill's had to walk i get talking to a fellow cyclest she said she done 700mile over a few day's and that was eaier then this.... near the top i got back on a inished the hill on my bike that made me feel better about having to walk up a bit. from thiat point it was hard but i did not have to get off again. crowed on the street was getting bigger the support was priceless people was amazing offering drinks and really cheering made you feel like someone importent i did not want to let them down so all i could think is ive nearly finished this i so tierded all i want to do is finish now. Dean was still supporting all of us he must of done 3 to 4 times the amount of miles we did. up last little hill my friend and Dean waitined for me to get up then we crossed the finish line together. i was so happy to be finished but also that finish was like nothing ive ever had before the crowed was screaming the camers was snapping away there was the announcment about us finishing it was just amazing. Dean finishe with us then went back for our fiend who was no seen for awhile. As we crossed the line we got our medel and half a lardger that was a lovly thing to get at a finish line... when our friend crossed the line i was so happy i was screaming her neame she looked so relived.
ooooo my thiswas a truly hard and painful exspeniance but was the most amasing thing ive ever done. if your thinking of doing it do it you will only wish you haven't while your doing it but when you fished you will wonder when you can do the next one.
