Keeping my Sanity during this CoViD-19 Crisis

It has been 2 weeks now since I stepped out of the house because of this Covid-19 situation and despite Keeping myself busy working from home, I am beginning to experience the feeling that my life is at a standstill and I am starting to wonder how long I will be able to survive this situation. I have read everything there is to read about the Covid-19, and I am religiously keeping tab of the number of cases every day. With all the mishaps and misgivings of the government and the stubbornness of the public, it seems we’re in this for a long haul.

As I am now conscious of this negative feeling that is starting to creep in, I am telling myself that I need to break out from it and continue being optimistic with life. So, I searched the world wide web on how to keep my sanity during this crisis.

Here are good recommendations that I found:

1. Avoid internalizing everything that is going on. Read only credible sources of information. Stay away from negative comments and perceptions because they will only consume you. Find ways to relax and focus your energy into activities that will make you productive.

2. Explore a new interest, such as gardening, learning a new language, doing an online course, painting or reading a book. This is the best time to re-learn doing household chores and basic domestic work that we always can’t find time to do before.

3. Take advantage of the internet solutions within your reach. Go online and look for interesting stuff to read or watch that will enrich you as a person. Aim to come out of these few weeks as a new version of you, more knowledgeable and socially in touch.

4. Organize your time. Plan what you will do and accomplish for the day and keep with it.

5. Exercise. Jog in place for 10-15 minutes or longer. Do stretching. Open YouTube and look for simple yoga or Zumba exercises that you can follow.

6. Talk to someone especially when you start to feel empty, hopeless, and worthless.

7. Pray.

As they say, “this too will pass”. I know that God is on top of the situation and so there will be an end, and we will come out of this as better people. Our lives will be normal again. But for now, we must endure and protect ourselves, our loved ones and our country.
