Layered Cherry Bath Bombs

With colorful layers and a sweet cherry scent, these fizzing Bath treats are perfect for cheering up the last lingering days of winter. Say hello to spring with this fun and easy project - made with mineral rich Dead Sea Salt, moisturizing Mango Butter, and cleansing Kaolin Clay.

We layered this recipe with bold colored FDA Blue and FDA Coral Mica, but you can make it your own by using your favorite colors Mica instead. White Kaolin Clay acts as a binding agent in this recipe, giving the Bath Bombs a little extra structure and firmness.

Dead Sea Salt is an excellent addition to any bath product, packing a bevvy of beneficial minerals into the mix. Dead Sea Salt can help promote relaxation, encourage blood flow, and nourish the skin with minerals like magnesium and potassium.

Our Cherry Plant-Based Fragrance Oil was used to give this recipe a sweet, cheerful scent. If you prefer, you can use another of our gorgeous Plant-Based Fragrance Oils instead, or swap it for your favorite Essential Oil or conventional Fragrance Oil. This particular color scheme makes me think of fun food flavors like lemon, mandarin, and cotton candy!

We used a pvc pipe mold to create these bath bombs, but you can also use any mold suitable for making bath bombs and fizzies. Muffin tins, tart pans, and candy molds are just a few examples of molds that you may find already in your kitchen. Just look for a mold that holds about four ounces of liquid. That's the perfect size for this project.

Layered Cherry Bath Bombs
Makes about fifteen bath bombs

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Dead Sea Salt, Medium
  • 1 pound Baking Soda
  • 8 ounces Citric Acid
  • 4 ounces White Kaolin Clay
  • 2 ounces Mango Butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons Cherry Plant-Based Fragrance Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon FDA Blue Mica
  • 1/4 teaspoon FDA Coral Mica
  • sprayer filled with 1/2 rubbing alcohol and 1/2 water

Directions

  1. Combine salt and fragrance oil in mixing bowl and stir well. Divide salt in equal portions between two bowls. Add one color of mica to each bowl and stir well to fully coat salt.
  2. Combine baking soda, citric acid, and kaolin clay in food processor and pulse until powders are an equal texture and well blended. Divide this powder equally between the two bowls of salt.
  3. Drizzle 1 ounce of melted mango butter over the first bowl, and mix well. Repeat with remaining oil in second bowl.
  4. Starting with one bowl of powder, spritz with several sprays of alcohol and water mixture, then work by hand to mix thoroughly. Repeat this step until the powder just starts to clump together, similarly to damp sand. Repeat this process with the second bowl of powder.
  5. Pack about 2 heaping tablespoons of pink powder into your mold, followed by a layer of blue, then another layer of pink, and a second layer of blue. Press the powder down firmly to pack it. When the mold is very firmly packed gently tip it over and tap out the bath bomb.
  6. Allow the bath bombs to dry for at least 24 hours before packaging them in an airtight wrapper.

Usage & Packaging

  • Fizzing bath products must be kept away from humidity during storage. Once you are certain they are completely dried out, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or cellophane. Our Small Cellohane Bags would be a great storage solution for this product.
  • To use, simply drop one bath bomb into the tub. The product will fizz and dissolve in minutes.
