Homeopathic Remedies – What You Need to Know

Homeopathic Remedies – What You Need to Know

Whenever someone brings up homeopathic remedies, it is greeted with either a grin or especially so, with a question mark. All of us who are moderately aware of or have had experience in using these remedies really wonder why they really work.

Firstly, they have really weird sounding names and it seems as if nothing happens no matter how many of those white pills you take. From a medical standpoint, people are divided over whether this type of treatment really works at all.

Samuel Hahnemann, its founder, certainly thinks it did thanks to a series of ‘provings’ but without the presence of evidence of its workings in this day and age, through carefully controlled clinical trials, there are more doubts than not.

Homeopathy – How it Works

So, how does Homeopathy work? Why are some doctors not in approval of this method of treatment?

Common questions that the diligent seeker might ask, and rightly so. In fact, it was Hahnemann who also coined the term ‘allopathic medicine’ to distinguish between his form of Medicine and the system of Western medicine as a whole.

In every sense of the word, homeopathy can be considered as alternative medicine that really gave mainstream medicine at the time a run for its money until developments in the 20th century.

But here’s the difference between the two: while allopathy seeks to suppress or oppose the disease and its symptoms, homeopathy believes that ‘like can be cured by like’, as strange as that sounds to most medical practitioners of this day and age.

Interestingly, in introducing medicine (the weird sounding white pills) that creates artificial symptoms just as the disease, the patient is suffering from. Speaking of these little round white pills, they are made of highly diluted preparations of animal, plants, mineral and synthetic substances.

Most people would go: Now who would go and do something like that… it doesn’t make sense at all! Yes, we’re enamored by mainstream (read as: allopathic) medicine, of course…

By doing so, homeopathy seeks to create a diversion, if you will… and better still, activate the ‘life force’ that will begin to fight the effects of the disease in the body. As for the artificial symptoms introduced to the body, they would quickly subside as soon as one stopped taking the pills.

Seems logical enough, right? So, what’s the problem then?

Most doctors who practice allopathic medicine that have a problem with chinese acupuncture only until recently,  seem to have the same issue with homeopathic remedies too.

Since the method by which a medicine is known to work is deduced by the means of clinical trials, very few or none have been conducted because homeopathy if, for all practical purposes, alternative medicine – that doesn’t take this approach.

Some doctors say that it causes a placebo effect and nothing more… pretty dismissive, don’t you think?

Homeopathic Remedies – How it is Administered

The Materia Medica can be likened to the ‘bible’ of homeopathy, where practitioners use it to find which remedies (the little white pills that come in small glass containers) must be given to treat symptoms they find in patients.

So, here are a couple of examples of homeopathic remedies that might help you understand how the medicine is administered:

1. Remedy for Illness/ Disease: Earache (beginning)

Symptoms: intense, unbearable, cutting and throbbing pain due to cold, ear is red, hot and sensitive, thirst, fever, patient is agitated, fearless and restless, symptoms are worse around midnight

Pills for treatment: Aconite 30X (Aconite napellum)

2. Illness/ Disease: Swelling/ bruising/ injury

Symptoms: Shock, pain, trauma, soreness, tenderness, stress

Pills for treatment: Arnica 30X, which is most effective for all problems related to the overworked muscle due to age, work, arthritis and even prolonged sports training.
