Quick Bread Kaja | How to make Pakam Bread Sweet

Bread Kaja is a quick and easy sweet or dessert you can make with readymade Bread slices. This quick Bread Kaja is a saviour when you want something done instantly for a meal or just to enjoy!

I remember Amma making this quick sweet whenever she has excess Bread Slices or needs a quick dessert to serve. She used to call it Pakam Bread or Chakkara Pakam bread as roasted bread triangles were dipped in Chasni or Sugar Syrup and enjoyed. This is a 3 ingredient sweet as you only need bread slices, sugar, and ghee. During our growing up years, Amma used to deep fry the bread slices and dip them in sugar syrup. Later she used to toast it crispy on the pan with little ghee.

However you make this sweet, it is a delightful one. I have not seen Amma garnishing it with nuts, however, if you want to make it more elegant, you can garnish with finely chopped nuts. I think this sweet came into the picture when we make Shahi tukda. Along with Bread Halwa, Shahi Tukda is another sweet Amma use to prepare frequently. So when she was deep frying the bread, I remember I used to eat it as such. I remember somebody mentioning that it's called Bread Kaja. When I searched on the net, I saw Harichandana saying she had named it like this. That's a great idea and I am also glad I could get an easy name than what we used to call it before.

When I was making the Indian Thali, I wanted to always have some sweets included in the thali plate. I didn't have time to plan for anything elaborate and yet wanted something on the plate. Amma suggested we make this as we always have bread stocked on regular basis.

While planning on A to Z Easy Family Dinner Ideas when I landed in the alphabet Q, I knew I had just the right dish for this letter. There is nothing quicker than this easy and quicker Bread sweet.
