Baoballz

As much as it drives me crazy, kids seem to get a kick out of things that are spelled wrong. Is it rebellion? Freedom from parental oversight? Not sure. What I do know is that all my son’s beloved graphic novels have at least one ‘z’ where an ‘s’ should be. So, in that spirit, here is a recipe for Baoballz, with ‘z’.

They use my son’s favorite form of social currency, Baobites (I swear, he uses them to trade favors from his school friends). I hope they are as big a hit at your house.

Tip: Get the kids rolling the baoballz, and they will likely be the perfect size for them.

Fruity Lemon Baoballz

Yield: 12- 36 balls

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Flora Peach Mango Baobites
  • ½ cup dried apricots
  • 1 cup cashews
  • ¾ cup dried coconut, unsweetened
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • More dried coconut, medium or fine, unsweetened (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Place everything in a food processor (or similar) and blitz until a uniform moist crumb forms, pausing to free the blades as you go. If it’s too thick for your machine, you may need to blitz each item separately from driest to wettest, then assemble in a bowl.
  2. Once the mixture comes together well, shape into balls.
  3. Roll in coconut until coated.
  4. Keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 7 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Chocolate Orange Bliss Balls

Yield: About 18 balls

These chocolatey blood orange bliss balls are ‘bloody’ delicious!

They are a perfect pick-me-up for your weekend hikes or when busy back-to-school afternoons leave long breaks between lunch and dinner.

We liked the addition of a touch of lemon and maple syrup for moisture, but they could be equally delicious with coffee or almond extract.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup Flora Blood Orange Baobites
  • ¼ cup vegan chocolate protein powder
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tbsp Udo’s Oil Omega 3+6+9 Blend
  • 1 cup oats
  • ½ cup almond butter
  • Optional liquids: 2-4 tablespoons lemon juice, maple syrup, coffee, or a combination

Instructions

  1. Place everything in food processor (or similar) and blitz until a fine crumb forms. At first, it may not form a ball, but when you squeeze it together, it stays.
  2. Check the taste and moisture level. If needed, you can add some lemon juice or other liquid. If your almond butter is unsalted, you may wish to add some salt.
  3. Shape into truffle-sized balls.
  4. Keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 7 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
