A Mother’s Stress

A mother’s Stress often is the highest among categories of carers. I recently was involved in the support process for a concerning on away from a war zone that could be comparable.

April is stress awareness month- usually taken to highlight the impact of stress on mental health with proposals on practical ways we can reduce our stress.

My tale is about a mother who was bed-ridden for years. Her last set of Children were twins in primary school. She had older children who she could not see for years. In her condition she exercised great faith with the support of her little ones. They got her into evangelising. Children often can reach people in ways adults cannot. While focusing on others through her constant pain she eventually moved off her wheelchair and today is walking and running.

Life is spiritual. We have learnt this at DMI. As she was celebrating her testimony of healing, the evil one sought to increase her stress. The ultimate goal was to set her back to a worse position. An older son had an accident while doing a delivery job and had his leg amputated.

Seeking God

Low on resources her church brethren got her to attempt fund-raising for prosthetics. Being unsuccessful in raising the required amount she sowed what she had into gospel television ministry. Her purpose for her sacrifice was that her beloved son would be taken care of. Miraculously, the prosthetics was provided. No further payment was required from the paltry instalment paid.

She took the little ones out of school to go stay with her older son in another country. Their travel fell in between lockdown periods during the COVID 19 pandemic measures. She got caught up in the ever changing international travel rules with their return trip delayed indefinitely.

Return during travel restrictions

Round about this time Australia was not even permitting her citizens to return home. Miraculously she secured their return home within 3 months. Of course, this increased debt incurred.

Increased Stress with Grief

Fast forward 9 months later. Celebrating the easing of restrictions, we received news this very son had gone missing. A prayer chain was setup when the news finally filtered to her church brethren. Prayer was raised daily. Weeks drew into months. Four months later – grief. We learnt he had been murdered in a violent culture. That’s another story.

What should she do?

As every mother, she wants to be at the events around her children – for good or for ill.

Being a murder investigation, the body is not being released. She desires to be in his environment to motivate speedy action in the case with closure.

Implications with travel are:

She has no family to leave the children with while she goes on a trip with Indefinite Duration.

Traveling with the twins will further disrupt their education.

The twins will be exposed to further trauma (read the tale of the Princes being obliged to follow their mother’s coffin)

The indefinite duration of their trip may result in the twins never returning to the country with her staying back with her older children

Bear in mind that doing nothing is a decision.
