How to Treat Psoriasis with Ayurvedic Medicines?

Psoriasis is a chronic Skin condition that increases the life cycle of skin cells. In this condition cells rapidly build up on the skin surface. It is an auto-immune disorder. Extra skin cells form scales and red patches which causes itching and sometimes is painful. The sign and symptoms of Psoriasis may vary from person to person which are as follows:

1. Plaque psoriasis

It is the most common type also called Psoriasis Vulgaris. This type is characterized by red patches of skin with silver or white scales that appear on the knee, elbow, lower back, and scalp.

2. Guttate psoriasis

Guttate psoriasis appears as small red spots on the skin. The spots are small and drop-shaped which appear on toes, limbs, face, and scalp. This is the second most common type of psoriasis.

3. Pustular psoriasis

This type of psoriasis develops fast and is the severe form of psoriasis. It is characterized by white pustules surrounded by red skin on hands and feet. Symptoms like fever, chills, weakness, loss of appetite also appear in this type.

4. Inverse psoriasis

Inverse psoriasis is red, smooth shiny psoriasis usually appears in skin folds such as the armpit, groin region, or under breasts.

5. Psoriatic arthritis

Psoriatic arthritis is seen joints are mainly affected. It is painful also appears on the skin.

In Ayurvedic point of view psoriasis can be correlated with “kustha”. It is due to the imbalance of vata and kapha dosha. Imbalanced vata dosha is responsible for dryness and scaling of psoriasis and kapha dosha are responsible for rapid cell growth and itching.

The main goal of ayurvedic treatment is the purification of blood and tissues. These ayurvedic herbs help in balancing the levels of vata and kapha dosha which in turn decrease the excess cell growth and reduces the symptoms of psoriasis.

3. Panchatikta Ghrit Guggulu

This herbal preparation contains neem (Azadirachta indica), patola (Trichosanthes dioica), vasa (Adhatoda vasica), guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), patha (Cissampelos pariera), vidanga (Embelia ribes), etc. These tablets help in balancing the levels of vata and kapha dosha in the body. Recommended dosage: Take 2 tablets twice daily with normal water.

4. Manjistha Churna:

This ayurvedic churna contains neem (Azadirachta indica) and manjistha (Rubia cordifolia). Manjistha churna reduces itching, redness, thick white, silvery scales, red patches and inflammation in a psoriasis patient.

Recommended dosage: Take 1 teaspoonful twice daily with normal water.

5. Sarvin Tablets:

These herbal tablets are prepared from gandhak (purified Sulphur), shudh hartal (arsenic trioxide), kali jeeri (Centratherum anthelminticum), khair chal (Acacia catechu). It helps in the reduction of redness and inflammation in psoriasis patient.

Recommended dosage: Take 2 tablets twice daily with normal water.

  • Avoid red meat, carbohydrates, refined sugar.
