Yoga Stories: Bait the Big Fish

Yoga Stories: Bait the Big Fish

A man wanted to catch “The big prized fish”.  He took the best of worms, but the big fish eluded him. Day after day, he got many fishes, but not the big one. The big fish lived at the deep end of the lake. And he just could not bait it out.

One day, on catching a small fish, he used that fish as bait. And to his pleasant surprise, he caught a little bigger fish. And then he continued using different fishes as bait. Till finally, he caught “The big prized fish”!!

Yoga Analogy

There are five stages to truly achieve Antar Mouna. We are aware about the nature of mind. One thought leads to another and the monkey mind goes deeper and deeper into the jungle.

Similarly, during stage 3 of Antar mouna;  we consciously create and dispose of thoughts. There is no place for spontaneous thoughts. Rather a particular theme or thought is chosen. Followed by reflection and generating as many connected thoughts to the theme.

These consciously created thoughts incite and attract deeper thoughts, memories and mental conditioning. Thus, we all have deep rooted fears, ideas, perceptions, attitudes that are baited. So that we can tap into the subconscious mind. (Just like small fishes are used as bait; to get the fishes living at the deepest of the lake).

We are constantly bombarded with external stimuli and some get imbibed into us. Thus, meditation helps in bringing these thought to the surface. So that, they can be disposed of (fears, trauma) or used (ideas, creative solutions), etc.

Thus, this helps in silencing the mind innately. And it’s during this silence that our awareness deepens. While expanding our consciousness.
