Food is nourishing, celebratory, comforting and it brings people together. The Food trends have seen a tremendous change in the last five years. These are predicted to be the Biggest Food Trends of 2020.

1) Mock Meat

Indian supermarkets have started keeping Mock meats or plant based meats. This reflects the global trend of consuming mock meat. It is estimated that around 70 billion animals are killed every year. And this is not sustainable. Thus, mock meat has become a necessity.

2) More Plant based eating

The vegan movement is exploding. In fact, more and more people are adopting a plant based diet, not a plant exclusive diet. This movement is being caused by more awareness about health issues, chronic illnesses, global warming and quick recovery.

3) Gut food

Gut bacteria isn’t glamorous but everyone’s talking about it. With the  discovery of how gut bacteria impacts the mental health, skin, people are adding more probiotics to their diet.

4) More Milk Alternatives

Today almost every nut, almond, sunflower, cashew, walnut, has an accompanied milk version. 2019 saw the rise of oat milk and soy milk. These milks are easy to digest and are being used to make fancy desserts and ice creams too.

5) Intermittent Fasting

It ruled 2019 and it’s going to get more power in 2020. People are realizing the benefits of Intermittent Fasting and more an more people are adopting IF for a healthier life.

6) CBD is here to stay

CBD (cannabinoids) isn’t just for treating pain anymore. It’s being added in the skin care products and your food too. CBD infused coffee, cookies, snacks are making way to our homes.  Though  we know next to nothing about what these minor cannabinoids actually do in humans over a period of time. Researches are going on, in full swing.

7) Menus with More Diet Alternatives

Today restaurants are offering gluten-free and vegetarian options on their menu. Due to the onslaught of fad diets, we will now see restaurants having to cater to more varied diets. This includes gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan and keto options.

8) Brain Boosting Foods

People are adding foods that support cognitive function. Such as  foods rich in omega-3, and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich foods (brightly coloured fruits and vegetables).

Besides, people are also opting for Nooptropics.  They are compounds that help improve brain function, including memory and cognitive function. They come in supplement or drug forms. But there are also a number of nootropic foods that boost cognitive health, like turmeric, wild blueberries, salmon, broccoli, walnuts and seaweed.
