Natural Relief for Sciatic Pain

If you’re looking for a natural remedy to back Pain, chiropractic tops almost every list and for good reason. It’s effective in handling sciatic symptoms for the long run but, unfortunately, if you’re in the throes of agony right now there is no quick-fix. A solid treatment plan with your chiro might help you deal with the acute trigger points when they flare up, but what about those moments when something crops up unexpectedly?

While you continue to work with your chiropractor, here are some things you can do to temporarily relief the pain.

Heat and Cold Therapies:

When deciding between hot and cold treatments for your ailments it is important to take several factors into account including which type of pain you are experiencing. For example, you would opt for a heating pad when dealing with mild aches rather than chronic pressure as heat can cause inflammation. Cold treatments might be the better choice when it comes to addressing things like swelling or spasms as cold restricts blood flow and reduces the body’s reaction to these problems but heat can actually aggrevate them. Similarly if the pain is especially acute, you may want to use alternating periods of heating and cooling as these combinations have been proven effective for reducing nerve inflammation (3 minutes on: 1 Minute off x 5 – end with cold)

Epsom Salt Soaks:

Epsom salt baths are a popular way to ease stiffness and pain in sore muscles and joints. Epsom Salt, when combined with a warm bath, increases circulation and reduces inflammation that contributes to the pain of sciatica or sever muscle strain. While some people prefer an alternating routine of hot – cold (3 minutes hot: 1 minute cold x5), you can also do a total of five full minutes in a warm bath if this is easier or more relaxing for you.

Acupuncture:

When researchers looked into the effects of acupuncture and back pain, a test group exposed to warming acupuncture showed relief from their symptoms because the therapy helped increase their pain threshold. They experienced significant improvement when compared to two other test groups exposed to medication.

Stretching and Yoga:

When it comes to sciatica and exercise, avoid anything too strenuous. It’s important not to push yourself too hard; you need to take things slow. But you should also avoid inactivity, as it can be just as harmful, especially for your body overall! Stretching and yoga are both great options for sciatica sufferers because they help lengthen your spine while helping you maintain good posture. They also reduce inflammation and strengthen muscles without placing excess strain on the back. What’s more, studies show that these exercises are safe and effective for people who suffer from sciatica!
