A Healthy and Natural Alternative for Treating Neck Pain

Neck Pain

Neck Pain is a symptom of many different things. It can stem from your posture, spinal alignment and poor ergonomics of your office or workspace. Since most people spend most of their time in front of a computer screen, it’s no wonder why many tech workers report experiencing Neck Pain often. However, that’s not the only cause! Did you know that car accident injuries and even repetitive stress injuries (stressors) like overuse/strain injuries like tendinitis can also lead to neck pain? If you want to make sure that something isn’t seriously wrong with your neck (especially if symptoms persist), it’s always best to see a doctor ASAP.

Here are some all-natural methods that may be able to help you out:

Anti-Inflammatory Foods:

Adopting an anti-inflammatory diet and improving your body’s dietary quality is one of the most effective strategies for combating pain. Consider eating more nutrient rich food with less inflammatory compounds.

These include:

  • Green, leafy vegetables
  • Wild-caught salmon
  • Bone broth
  • Healthy fats like organic, unrefined coconut oil
  • Probiotic foods (yogurt)
  • Fermented foods

ICE Therapy:

Tension and muscle soreness can often be relieved through an ice pack. When using the traditional “ice bag” or “therapuf”, one should avoid getting it directly on the skin in order to avoid prolonged exposure as this can result in frost bite! The best way to use an ice pack is by placing a towel in between your skin and the cold pack; this will help you keep the pack from touching you for only about 20 minutes.

Essential Oils:

When it comes to soreness, there’s more than one way to ease the pain. Here are a few products you can choose from:

  • Peppermint Oil: Cooling and anti-inflammatory
  • Lavender Oil: Relief from pain and swelling
  • Sandalwood: Tension relief

Bedtime Neck Support:

Neck pain is a common issue. This might come from the kind of pillow that you use to sleep on or might be due to sleeping in the wrong position. Experts recommend using a pillow that’s firm enough to give your neck and head proper support while contouring to your neck and shoulder.

The Text Neck Stretch:

It’s common to experience severe neck pain from excessive use of technology like smartphones. As you’re hunched over texting, it strains your spine and can even force you to hunch your shoulders forward which leads to upper back and neck pain. One way to help relieve some tension is to do a quick stretch such as the following:

  • Sit or stand with your hands behind your head.
  • With your elbows out, slowly squeeze your shoulder blades back.
  • Bring your head and shoulders backward, arching the upper middle back.
  • Hold this position for 10-20 seconds and then slowly releas
