Understanding Arthritis

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is a very common condition that will cause inflammation to one or multiple joints in the body. There are many different types of Arthritis. The most known types of arthritis worldwide are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis causes a breakdown in cartilage whereas rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that affects the lining of the joints.  Arthritis can be developed at any age, but it is more common for:  women, people aged over 65, a person coming from a family with a history of arthritis and people that are overweight.

Symptoms of arthritis can surface quickly but are more likely to develop over a long period of time. Common symptoms include: Joint pain, stiffness, a decreased range of motion, swelling and redness around the joints.

Arthritis can make simple everyday tasks extremely difficult. It can affect a persons’ mobility and their comfort.

Diet Plan

There are drinks and food known for reducing inflammation and helping with pain for arthritis. Tea, especially green and white teas have strong anti-inflammatory effects for people with arthritis. Drink plenty of water to help lubricate joints and reduce inflammation. Drinking smoothies or juices that are high vitamin C can also help with inflammation. Fish and soybeans contain omega-3 fatty acids which is recommended for people with rheumatoid arthritis. Oils are filled with heart healthy fats that are recommended for people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthris. Berries can help prevent gout attacks. Dairy products have calcium and vitamin D and will strengthen bones. It’s always important to eat a healthy balance of the different food groups. Always keep track of the foods that are being put into your body and which foods help most when suffering with inflammation.
