Appalachian Art Therapy for Recovering Addicts

Art Therapy for Appalachian Addicts

A new program sponsored by the Appalachian Artisan Center in Eastern KY, hopes that art therapy can help recovering addicts.

As reported by WYMT, Knott County artists and representatives from local recovery centers met this week to talk about using art to help people recovering from addiction.

They’ll find a purpose and something they’re passionate about which is always important for someone in recovery,” said Cole Glasscock, who has recovered from addiction and now works in drug court.

Members of the Appalachian Artisan Center in Hindman and Hickory Hill Recovery Center are teaming up for a project called the Culture of Recovery.

Local artists will host classes.

“We found that there were already people gravitating to the arts to fill a void that was left by their substance abuse,” said Appalachian Artisan Center Executive Director Jessica Evans.
