True Humility

One of our “contributors” writes:

As you know I’m a humble guy, hence my involvement with aacultwatch. But recently I had a chance to demonstrate how humble I am. This guy came into a London meeting of the streets and asked how long sober I was. I said just for today. He looked confused so I tried to explain. But the poor wretch was clearly too mentally ill to understand, so I told him how long sober I actually was (a long time!) He look impressed and ask me to sponsor him. I smiled at him with loving eyes and said I would not sponsor him as it endangered my humility. But I said I would be his friend. He looked at me like I was mad and spilled some of his coffee in violently shaking hands. Then he sat down for the meeting, not sitting next to me thankfully (he didn’t smell too good). He left halfway through, so I guess he wasn’t ready.

Now obviously I’ll feel bad if he dies on the streets. But I think there is a higher principle. That of keeping AA simple and humble. It’s worth a few newcomers dying as long as we can keep AA the way it should be. That’s true humility.”

Cheers,

P.S. What a Humble guy!
